摘要:
A device for vertically conveying coins including a lower horizontal guide path, a vertical guide path, an approximately arc-shaped deflecting path connecting the lower horizontal guide path and the vertical guide path. Each of the path conveys the coins in a lying fiat position. At least one conveyor belt is provided. Rollers are provided whereby the conveyor belt is led around the rollers. Deflecting rollers are arranged at space locations from the guide paths and the from the arc-shaped deflecting path. With this structure, an essentially constant conveying gap is formed by the thickness of the coins being conveyed between the guide paths and the deflecting paths and the conveyor belt. Structure for feeding the coins, conveyed lying flat one by one, is arranged at the beginning of the lower horizontal guide path. Structure for transferring the coins being conveyed is arranged at the top end of the vertical guide path. At the beginning of the lower horizontal guide path there is preferably provided structure for identifying the denomination of the coins and for counting the coins, and or for presorting and conveying the coins according to denomination and/or for sorting out foreign coins. The end of the vertical guide path is formed by a dispenser hood with a coin guide plate joining it. An additional arc-shaped deflecting path with a connected upper horizontal guide path and with rollers and deflecting rollers associated with them for guiding a conveyor belt, is arranged at the top end of the vertical guide path.

The type of denomination of a coin inserted through a coin slot is discriminated by a coin discriminating section while the coin is being conveyed substantially horizontally by a mechanism for horizontally conveying coins, and the discriminated coin is distributed by coin distributing levers for selectively executing a first distributing operation for distributing coins to a relevant coin accumulating section and a second distributing operation for introducing the coins to an ensuing coin distributing section. As for the coin distributing levers, all the coin distributing levers leading to the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination are set in a state in which the first distributing operation is prohibited, and subsequently the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination is caused to effect the first distributing operation, and as the coin to be distributed passes through the coin distributing levers, the state in which the first distributing operation of the coin distributing sections leading to the coin distributing section corresponding to the discriminated type of denomination is prohibited is sequentially canceled.

A detector assembly (20) detects motion by utilizing a plurality of motion detectors (22-28), each detector having a first finger (40) and a second finger (42 ). First finger (40 ) has a signal line (36) on the inner surface (32) and second finger (42) has a ground line (38) disposed on another portion of inner surface (32). Spacer (46) keeps fingers (40) and (42) out of physical contact in the normal position so that there is an open circuit between signal line (36) and ground line (38). When a moving object (50) strikes first finger (40), first finger (40) is deflected downward so that first finger (40) and second finger (42) make physical contact at contact point (48), thereby establishing a closed circuit between signal line (36) and ground line (38). In this fashion a detection pulse is generated. The substrate (30) of detector assembly (20 ) is made of a resilient, flexible material such as a synthetic resin, for enhanced sensitivity. Due to the enhanced sensitivity of detector assembly (20), the motion of objects (50) can be detected even though such motion is random, i.e. the motion of objects does not have to be precisely controlled in the vicinity of detector assembly (20).

An apparatus for separating and counting coins comprising a pair of rail spaced from each other to define a coin slot and a closed-loop chain for stably moving coins of different diameters on the pair of rails. The two rails are inclined with respect to a horizontal plane so that the coins are supported thereon in an inclined manner. The coin slot increases incrementally from an upstream of the coin slot to a downstream of the coin slot. Each coin, which has a diameter larger than a first width of the coin slot at the upstream and smaller than a second width of the coin slot at the downstream and moves along the coin slot, falls from the pair of rails. A counting device is suitably provided near the coin slot so that, upon falling of the coin, a count is registered.

A coin sorter having a rotatable disc includes a brake mechanism for stopping rotation of the disc in response to a predetermined number of counted coins. The disc is driven through a gear train by an electric motor. The brake mechanism includes an electromagnetic actuating assembly and an armature mounted on the shaft of a motor. Upon energization of the actuating assembly, the armature is drawn into contact with the actuating assembly to provide a braking pressure which halts rotation of the motor and the disc.

A coin-engaging apparatus for use with a coin-sorting machine having a rotating flexible surface, comprising: a cylindrical shaft positionable within a generally horizontally oriented cylindrical opening of the machine sized to receive the shaft therein, the opening having an open end and a closed end, the shaft being rotatably and horizontally positionable within the opening, the shaft having an eccentric, longitudinal, threaded first bore at an end positionable toward the open end of the opening, and having a longitudinal, threaded second bore at another end positionable toward the closed end of the opening; a coin-depressing wheel rotatably mounted along its axis of rotation on a shoulder screw, the screw being threadedly engageable by the eccentric first bore for positioning the wheel above the surface; a spacer screw threadedly engageable by the threaded second bore and adjustably extendable therefrom for butting against the closed end of said opening; and a locking screw for locking the shaft in a selected rotational position within the opening. The coin-depressing wheel has two oppositely disposed, substantially flat sidewalls to provide a reversible wheel.

A device for counting coins of different diameters and similar disk-shaped objects which are conveyed in irregular sequence. The edges of the coins contact a guide edge on a guide track which has a scanning head located therein for identifying the coins. An electronic evaluation and display unit receives the identification signals delivered by the scanning head. The scanning head has several electronic proximity sensors located at different distances from the guide edge. The paths of motion of the edges of coins away from the guide edge, run in the active areas of the proximity sensors which provide substantially clear identification signals distinguishing the coins to be identified. The diameter of the proximity sensors is approximately half the diameter of the smallest coin to be identified, and the several proximity sensors are located at different distances from the guide edge. These distances are determined by the paths of motion of different coins. The sensors, furthermore, may be staggered along a line perpendicular to the guide edge. The electronic proximity sensors, moreover, may be located one behind another in the direction of motion of the coins.

A coin sorter and totalizer which easily can be adapted to count the coins of many different countries despite the use of different coinage systems in those countries. The coins are sorted mechanically according to size, and an electrical signal identifying the coin according to its size is produced. Two sets of terminals are mounted near one another so that connections can be made to them easily. Changing these connections will change the scaling of the coin identification signals in accordance with the value of the coin of that size in the country in which the totalizer is to be used. The connections can be changed by the use of jumper wires, or by connecting a pre-wired multiple circuit element such as a printed circuit board, an integrated circuit chip, or a pre-wired plug-in panel between the sets of terminals. The connection process is very simple because only one wire need be connected for each size of coin to be totalized. The coin identification signals are stored temporarily in electrical latch circuits. The signals are read-out of those simple storage devices by means of a stepping register. A multiplier circuit scales the identification signals, and a binary-code-decimal counter is driven to totalize the values of the coins. A light-emitting diode array displays the total value of the coins. A warning device is provided to indicate when a power interruption has occurred so that the coins can be sorted and totalized again to avoid an error.
