摘要： A method of manufacturing jewelry and a chain article formed therefrom that results in a product substantially lighter than its solid counterpart. A length of wire mesh or woven wire type of “fabric” having a hollow seamed wire with a non-precious core of a width and length corresponding generally to the proportions of the jewelry chain to be created is provided. The non-precious core is then removed by one of many methods. Then, a series of hollow link sections are received on the length of wire mesh such that the interior surfaces of the links surround the mesh. The links are arranged in an end-to-end abutting relationship upon the mesh until the length of chain desired is reached. Alternatively, a spiral resembling a spring may be used. Upper and lower die members are brought into contact with the preformed chain and forced there against with a magnitude of pressure and for a duration of time sufficient to deform the links or spiral and bring the inner surfaces thereof into at least partial engagement with the mesh.

Each link is made from a wire loop having a gap, wherein the wire loop has a cross-section with a major axis defining a long diametrical dimension and a minor axis defining a short diametrical dimension. The long diametrical dimension is disposed in a plane defined by a diameter of the link and the short diametrical dimension is perpendicular to the long diametrical dimension. A ratio of the long diametrical dimension to the short diametrical dimension is less than 1.3:1. The gap of the wire loop is narrower than the long diametrical dimension of the loop cross-section.

摘要： The invention is a unitary component that may be substituted intermittently for portions of a jewelry rope chain. The unitary component has connecting means that promotes the integration of the component with the conventional rope chain by receiving onto the component the individual links of the rope chain in their ordinary sequence and position as those links are sequentially and positionally comprised on a conventional rope chain. The use of the component with conventional rope chain segments results in savings of precious metal and labor costs while retaining many of the flexibility and aesthetic advantages of the conventional rope chain. The preferred embodiment of the rope chain is spiral in shape but may take on various other configurations.
