    Abstract: A fiber optic ferrule adapter for mating a multi-fiber optic ferrule and a multi-fiber optic connector includes a holder having a cavity where a multi-fiber optic ferrule is held therein, and a receptacle housing with an opening that allows the insertion of a fiber optic connector. The holder has a top opening for receiving the ferrule into its cavity; and two protrusions, which are respectively protruded from each interior side walls of the holder, for latching the ferrule in place inside the cavity. The holder includes a groove recessed on the interior walls of the cavity for catching a ridge on the ferrule so as to prevent any longitudinal movement of the ferrule inside the cavity. The cavity may include a slope next to an interface between the cavity and receptacle housing for allowing the sliding in-and-out of the ferrule at an angle to the top of the holder opening.

    Abstract: A small form factor optical connector holding two or more LC-type optical ferrules is provided. The optical connector includes an outer body, an inner front body accommodating the two or more LC-type optical ferrules, a pair a resilient latches and corresponding recess for the resilient latch, ferrule springs for urging the optical ferrules towards a mating receptacle, and a back body for supporting the ferrule springs. The outer body and the inner front body are configured such that four LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver footprint or eight LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a quad small form-factor pluggable (QSFP) transceiver footprint. A mating receptacle (transceiver or adapter) includes a receptacle hook and a housing with an opening that accommodates the receptacle hook in a flexed position as the optical connector makes connection with the mating receptacle by introducing the receptacle hook into an optical receptacle hook recess.

    Abstract: Optical fiber connectors and adapters are disclosed. A connector includes a flat pin assembly including a pin, a mechanical transfer ferrule boot disposed around at least a portion of the assembly, a housing disposed around at least a portion of the ferrule, and a locking plate. The housing includes first, second, top, and bottom sides. The first and second sides include a recess. The top side includes a groove. The locking plate includes a fastening mechanism configured to interlock with the groove. An optical fiber adapter includes first and second adapter ends each having one or more connecting arms to secure a separate optical fiber connector.

    Abstract: An optical connector assembly a first structure and a second structure, the two structures secured together using a retention structure to form a hybrid assembly. The retention structure uses a slot apex located in a slot channel for securing at least one latch pin of a coupling nut to an adapter housing forming the ingress protected connector without the use of a bias spring. The hybrid assembly is designed to resist water or debris ingress, and may eliminate the use of a bias force to further resist separating the hybrid assembly. When the latch pin passes over the apex and resides in a recess, an audible sound is made indicating the hybrid assembly adapter and coupling nut is mated.

    Abstract: A multiple fiber push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and including a stepped portion extending from at least one pair of opposing exterior surfaces of the ferrule. A one-piece housing-backpost is provided having a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. The one-piece housing-backpost is configured to receive a ferrule spring and the ferrule from the distal end. The housing-backpost includes at least one resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion extending from a sidewall to engage the corresponding stepped portion of the ferrule. The resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion is configured to deform towards the housing-backpost interior sidewall as the ferrule is inserted from the distal end and to extend outward against the stepped portion of the ferrule when the ferrule is seated in the housing-backpost to maintain the ferrule in the housing-backpost.

    Abstract: Narrow width fiber optic connectors having spring loaded remote release mechanisms to facilitate access and usage of the connectors in high density arrays. A narrow width fiber optic connector comprises a multi-fiber connector, wherein a width of said narrow width fiber optic connector is less than about 5.25mm, a housing configured to hold the multi-fiber connector and further comprising a connector recess, and a pull tab having a ramp area configured to disengage a latch of one of an adapter and an SFP from said connector recess. The pull tab may include a spring configured to allow the latch of one of the adapter and the SFP to engage with the connector recess.

    Abstract: A fiber optic ferrule sub-assembly for insertion into an outer housing of a fiber optic connector includes a ferrule assembly having a ferrule that forms an optical communication connection with another fiber optic device. A back housing includes a back post to be attached to a fiber optic cable. A spring is operatively disposed between the ferrule assembly and the back housing. A linkage connects the ferrule assembly to the back housing such that the spring is compressed and biases the ferrule away from the back housing prior to insertion of the fiber optic ferrule sub-assembly into the outer housing.
