Abstract:
A method of controlling gloss of an image includes forming an image over a substrate by applying a colored or colorless composition, included a colored ink and/or a colorless overcoat composition, over one or more portions of the substrate, wherein the colored or colorless composition includes at least one gellant, at least one curable monomer, at least one curable wax and optionally at least one photoinitiator, wherein the colored or colorless composition is curable upon exposure to radiation, and curing the colored or colorless composition following application by applying radiation to the colored or colorless composition and, during the curing, controlling an amount of oxygen present in an atmosphere around the image.
Abstract:
Disclosed is an ink jet printing device including an ink jet print head and a print region surface toward which ink is jetted from the ink jet print head, wherein a height distance between the ink jet print head and the print region surface is adjustable. The ink jet printing device is thus a dual printing device capable of printing both regular height and raised height images such as Braille.
Abstract:
A radiation curable phase change ink comprising a white colorant; a colorant dispersant; and an ink vehicle comprising at least one curable monomer; at least one gellant; optionally at least one photoinitiator; optionally at least one stabilizer; and optionally at least one wax.
Abstract:
Methods of controlling gloss of an image are disclosed. The methods may include forming an image over a substrate by applying an ink composition and optionally an overcoat composition at least partially over the substrate. The ink composition or overcoat composition may include at least one gellant, at least one curable monomer, optionally at least one curable wax and optionally at least one photoinitiator. The ink composition or overcoat composition may be curable upon exposure to radiation. The methods may further include providing a micro-roughness to one or more portions of the ink composition or overcoat composition by non-uniformly curing the ink composition or overcoat composition, and flood curing the ink composition or overcoat composition to complete a cure. The methods may thereby provide a controlled gloss level to the image.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a machine readable cord of a set of printed markings, wherein each printed marking of the set has a predetermined height on a substrate and represents a predetermined date value, wherein printed markings having a same predetermined height represent a same data value, and wherein printed markings representing different data values have different heights. Also disclosed is a system for embedding and recovering information on a substrate, including an image forming device containing at least one marking material, wherein the image forming device receives data, corresponding to the information, for forming machine readable code in accordance with claim 1 on an image receiving substrate, and forms an image including the machine readable code on the image receiving substrate with the at least one marking material, and a document reading device comprising a reader that detects the differences in height among the different printed markings of the machine readable code.
Abstract:
A phase change ink that includes a colorant and a phase change ink carrier. The phase change ink carrier includes a diblock or tri-block co-oligomer wax of the formula H3C(CH2)m(CX1X2)nCX3X4X5, or CX3X4X5 (CX1X2)n H2C(CH2)m(CX1X2)n CX3X4X5, wherein at least one of X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 are atoms selected from group VII of the periodic table and any remaining one of X1, X2, X3, X4 and X5 are hydrogen, wherein m is an integer of from about 5 to about 50, and wherein n is an integer of from about 3 to about 40. The phase change ink has a property of the phase change ink of providing a surface of a printed portion of the ink having a lower coefficient of friction to glass if the diblock co-oligomer wax was not included in the ink formulation.
Abstract:
An ink set is made up of at least three differently colored phase change inks, for example cyan, magenta and yellow, wherein at least one of the colored phase change inks is a photochromic ink that contains a photochromic material. Upon exposure to activating radiation such as ultraviolet light, the at least one photochromic ink changes to a color different from the color of the photochromic ink prior to exposure to the activating radiation.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a phase change ink containing a fluorescent colorant that upon exposure to activating energy fluoresces such that an image that was not visible prior to exposure to the activating energy becomes visible. Also disclosed are an ink jet system and a process for authenticating a color document using the disclosed phase change ink.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a method of embedding machine readable information on a substrate, including converting the information to machine readable code format and writing the machine readable code format on the substrate with at least one fluorescent marking material. Also disclosed is a system for embedding and recovering machine readable information on a substrate, including an image forming device containing at least one fluorescent marking material, wherein the image forming device receives data representative of the machine readable information, and forms an image corresponding to the data in a machine readable code format with the at least one fluorescent marking material on an image receiving substrate, and a document reading device including a radiation emitting unit that emits radiation effecting fluorescence of the at least one fluorescent marking material, and a reader that detects the data in the image on the image receiving substrate while the at least one fluorescent marking material is fluorescing.
