    Abstract: A distance measuring device is configured to emit transmission waves and detect reflected waves from an object, to measure a distance to the object. The device includes a housing, a transmission window that is provided to an opening of the housing and through which the transmission waves and the reflected waves are transmitted, a heater provided to the transmission window and heats the transmission window, a reflected wave side board whose edge is close to the transmission window in a space on a detection side of the reflected waves formed by dividing a space on the transmission window side in the housing into a space on an emission side of the transmission waves and the space on the detection side of the reflected waves, and a temperature sensor detecting a temperature of the heater. The temperature sensor is mounted on the transmission window side of the reflected wave side board.

    Abstract: A ranging apparatus works to measure a distance to an object and includes an emitter, a receiver, a housing, an emitting window, a receiving window, an emitting window heating wire, and an emitting window covering layer. The emitter outputs light. The receiver receives reflected light arising from reflection of the emitted light on the object. The housing has the emitter disposed therein. The emitting window is provided in the housing and configured to have the emitted light to be transmissible therethrough. The receiving window is provided in the housing and configured to have the reflected light to be transmissible therethrough toward the receiver. The emitting window heating wire adds heat to the emitting window. The emitting window covering layer covers the emitting window heating wire. The emitting window covering layer reflects the emitted light and the reflected light less than the emitting window heating wire.

    Abstract: After an engine is started, an ECU performs first regeneration processing of a PM sensor through heating by a heater and, after the first regeneration processing, applies a voltage continuously to detection electrodes for a predetermined voltage application period. The ECU causes PM to adhere to an insulating substrate due to the voltage application and, at a time point after the predetermined time period has elapsed, determines the amount of PM that is adhering to the insulating substrate. When a predetermined condition is satisfied outside the voltage application period, the ECU determines whether the amount of adhering PM on the insulating substrate is equal to or greater than an excess determination threshold value. If the amount of adhering PM is determined to be equal to or greater than the excess determination threshold value, the ECU performs second regeneration processing of the PM sensor, through heating by the heater.

    Abstract: A particulate matter detection sensor has an element part for detecting an amount of PM contained in exhaust gas emitted from an internal combustion engine. A deposition part and at least a pair of detection electrodes are formed on an end surface of the element part. Some of particles of PM is deposited on the deposition part. The pair of detection electrodes are arranged on the deposition part. The particulate matter detection sensor changes its output electrical signal according to variation of electrical properties between the pair of the detection electrodes due to deposition of PM on the deposition part. A concave collection part is formed on the deposition part. The concave collection part has a concaved shape when viewed from the edge surface of the element part.
