摘要:
A pre-connectorized fiber optic distribution cable assembly includes a plurality of optical fibers and at least one mid-span access location along the length of the distribution cable. At least one of the optical fibers is accessed, terminated and then connectorized at the mid-span access location to an optical connector disposed within a receptacle. The mid-span access location, the accessed, terminated and connectorized optical fiber, the optical connector and at least a portion of the receptacle are encapsulated with a protective overmolded shell. A tether including at least one optical fiber connectorized at a first end of the tether is optically connected to the optical connector through the receptacle. A second end of the tether opposite the first end terminates in a network optical connection terminal, thereby compensating for a span length measurement difference between the actual location of the mid-span access and the desired location of the optical connection terminal.

A fiber optic connector including one or more ferrule assemblies having a ferrule and a keyed ferrule holder defining a first key slot and a second key slot, and a connector housing defining a key that is received within the first or the second key slot. The first key slot configures the connector in a first keyed position for simultaneous, coplanar end face polishing of the ferrules, and the second keyed position configures the connector for mating with a receptacle, optical device or another connector. A fiber optic connector including a connector outer housing defining a first key slot for positioning the connector housing in a first keyed position and a second key slot for positioning the connector housing in a second keyed position, a connector inner housing defining a key and a ferrule assembly including a ferrule and a ferrule holder, wherein the ferrule assembly is biased outwardly within the connector outer housing. The connector outer housing is independently positionable between the first keyed position for end face polishing and the second keyed position for connector mating.

A fiber optic connector includes a multifiber ferrule and at least one force centering element for applying a biasing force to the ferrule in the longitudinal direction without introducing a moment about a lateral axis. The connector further includes a coil spring for exerting the biasing force and a spring seat disposed between the coil spring and the ferrule. The rearward portion or the forward portion of the spring seat may be provided with a pair of outwardly extending protrusions that are laterally spaced apart to transfer the biasing force to the ferrule. Alternatively, the forward portion of the spring seat or the rear face of the ferrule may define a convex surface. Alternatively, the ferrule defines a convex surface in the direction of a first lateral axis and the spring seat defines a convex surface in the direction of a second lateral axis perpendicular to the first lateral axis.

A ferrule is provided that defines a shoulder having curved corners. In this regard, the ferrule includes a lengthwise extending shaft and an enlarged rear portion proximate the shaft. The rear portion is larger in lateral cross-section than the shaft to thereby define a shoulder. In addition, that portion of the shaft proximate the enlarged rear portion includes curved corners such that the shoulder has corresponding curved inner corners. A fiber optic connector housing is also provided that defines an inwardly projecting shoulder having curved corners. The fiber optic connector housing includes a forward segment defining a lengthwise extending passage and a rearward segment also defining a lengthwise extending passage. The lengthwise extending passage defined by the rearward segment is larger in lateral cross-section than the lengthwise extending passage defined by the forward segment such that a shoulder is defined at the intersection of the forward and rearward segments. In addition, that portion of the forward segment proximate the rearward segment defines a section of the lengthwise extending passage having curved corners such that the resulting shoulder also has curved corners. By including shoulders having curved corners, the fiber optic connector of the present invention allows the ferrule to float within the internal cavity defined by the connector housing without becoming dislodged and assuming a cocked position within the internal cavity.

A fiber optic module assembly that may be pulled from a first location to a second location by a pulling means, the module assembly defining a pulling feature. The assembly may further be installed directly into a mounting structure for use as a patch panel. The fiber optic module assembly may be attached in a vertical orientation, facilitated by an articulated strain relief boot that pivots and rotates for cable management, which reduces the vertical footprint of the fiber optic module assembly. Embodiments of the fiber optic module assembly may be connected to the rear or side of a mounting structure for optical connection to pigtailed modules. The fiber optic module assembly may have a modular connector interface for mating dissimilar fiber optic connector assemblies.

A fiber optic cable assembly comprising a first fiber optic cable having pre-selected optical fibers pre-terminated and branched at a cable access point, a second cable optically connected to the pre-terminated optical fibers, and a flexible body encapsulating the cable access point. A method for manufacturing a fiber optic cable assembly comprising providing a fiber optic cable, making an opening in the cable for access, pre-terminating pre-selected optical fibers, optically connecting the pre-selected optical fibers with optical fibers of a tether cable, and encapsulating at least a portion of the cable access location within a flexible overmolded body.

摘要:
A ferrule boot for attachment to an optical fiber ribbon has a channel extending therethrough. The channel has at its distal end a first tapered lead-in section sized and dimensioned such that the optical fiber ribbon with the internal optical fibers stripped and exposed is insertable through the ferrule boot. The first tapered lead-in section is connected to a second tapered section, and the second tapered section prevents adhesives used to affix the optical fiber ribbon to a ferrule from wicking to the outside of the ferrule boot. The channel has a substantially straight section fitting intimately over the outside of the optical fiber ribbon to center and guide the exposed optical fibers to the center of the proximal end of the channel. In an embodiment, the ferrule boot also has a lip member disposed proximate to the proximal end of the channel to help seal the adhesive and ease insertion. Additionally, the lip may also prevent withdrawal of the optical fiber ribbon. In another embodiment, the ferrule boot also has a vent hole to allow air or other gases trapped in the ferrule boot cavity to vent to the ambient atmosphere.
