Two closed-loop coils are respectively set at the top or the bottom of a cathode ray tube. These two closed-loop coils serves in a pair as a cancel coil. Each closed-loop coil is positioned so as to make an interlinkage with the magnetic field leakage that escapes from the deflection yoke, a part of the closed-loop coil running almost in parallel to the top or bottom edge of an effective display region of a front panel.

A color cathode ray tube is composed of a glass bulb which has a front panel and a fluorescent screen set on an inner surface of the front panel, an in-line electron gun which is provided in the glass bulb and projects electron beams onto the fluorescent screen, a deflection means including horizontal and vertical deflection coils arranged outside the glass bulb, and a correction device for correcting cross-misconvergence. The correction device is provided with four correction coils that are respectively set for the four quadrants of a rectangular deflection region of the electron beams. The strength of the corrective magnetic fields generated by the correction coils becomes largest when the electron beams are deflected to a horizontal strip in the central part of both the upper and lower halves of the deflection region, and becomes nearly 0 when the electron beams are deflected to areas around the horizontal axis and top and bottom edges of the deflection region.

A picture tube device comprises a CRT and a deflection yoke having a terminal board cover, wherein an adjustment tool is not completely extracted from through holes and can be smoothly shifted between through holes, and the position of another through hole can be confirmed and determined without visual confirmation, so that the position among the through holes can be easily determined. A correction circuit comprising variable resistors for correcting misconvergence is employed on a printed board installed on the deflection yoke. The printed board is covered with a terminal board cover made of insulating material and through holes for inserting an adjustment tool for adjusting the adjustment areas of the variable resistors are formed in the terminal board cover. The through holes are connected to each other with guiding grooves.

A cathode ray tube apparatus comprising: a deflection yoke comprising a horizontal deflection coil that forms the pin cushion distortion as a whole; a vertical deflection coil that forms the barrel distortion as a whole: a resin frame provided around the periphery of the horizontal deflection coil, which insulates and fastens the horizontal deflection coil and the vertical deflection coil; and a ferrite core provided around the periphery of the vertical deflection coil to strengthen the magnetic flux and the length of part of cone portion of the horizontal deflection coil at the side of the screen whose winding angle is not less than 0 degree nor more than 30 degree with respect to the reference line is 25 mm or longer as measured from the reference line. This cathode ray tube apparatus can correct the pin cushion distortion of raster in the upper-and-lower side of the picture for flattened and increased deflection angle cathode ray tubes with the deflection yoke itself.

Each of magnetic member (6,7) has upper and lower magnetic parts (6b,6c) for distorting vertical deflection magnetic field from barrel shape to pincushion shape, and the upper or lower magnetic parts (6b, or 6c) has protruded magnetic parts (6d or 6e), respectively protruded from the upper or lower magnetic parts (6b or 6c) towards screen part of the color CRT apparatus, for partially correction of pincushion distortion of raster at peripheral part of screen.
