Abstract:
A combustor for a gas turbine, including: a combustor chamber; a casing enclosing the combustor chamber and defining an area therebetween for passing compressor discharge air into the combustor chamber for use in combustion; and at least one passive bypass valve for selectively extracting a portion of the compressor discharge air from the area between the combustor chamber and the casing to adjust a temperature in the combustor.
Abstract:
A turbomachine includes a compressor portion, and a turbine portion operatively connected to the compressor portion. The turbine portion includes a turbine casing. A combustor assembly, including at least one combustor, fluidically connects the compressor portion and the turbine portion. At least one of the compressor portion, turbine portion and combustor assembly includes a sensing cavity. A passive clearance control system is operatively arranged in the turbomachine. The passive clearance control system includes at least one passive flow modulating device mounted in the sensing cavity, and at least one cooling channel extending from the sensing cavity through the casing. The at least one passive flow modulating device selectively passes the fluid from the sensing cavity through the at least one cooling channel to adjust a clearance between stators and rotating airfoils in the turbine portion.
Abstract:
A system according to an embodiment includes: a passive flow modulation device positioned within a turbine for modulating a flow of cooling air, the passive flow modulation device including a housing containing a temperature sensitive element; and a temperature sensor attached to the housing containing the temperature sensitive element, the temperature sensor providing temperature-related data.
Abstract:
Embodiments of the disclosure include systems and methods for providing a flow of purge air and an adjustable flow of cooling air to a wheel space cavity or a stator cavity. According to one embodiment, there is disclosed a turbine assembly. The turbine assembly may include a rotor assembly, a stator assembly positioned adjacent to the rotor assembly, and a wheel space cavity formed between the rotor assembly and the stator assembly. At least one fixed purge air orifice may be associated with the stator assembly. The fixed purge air orifice may be configured to provide a flow of purge air to the wheel space cavity. Moreover, at least one adjustable cooling air orifice may be associated with the stator assembly. The at least one adjustable cooling air orifice may be configured to provide a flow of cooling air to the wheel space cavity.
