Abstract: There is disclosed a pressure responsive valve 352 for controlling a cooling flow through an orifice 320 in a gas turbine assembly 300. The valve 352 comprises an attachment point 360, a valve element 358, and a compressible valve body 354 defining a chamber 355 for sealing a volume of compressible gas. The valve body 354 is configured to act between the attachment point 360 and the valve element 358 so that in use expansion or contraction of the valve body 354 in response to external pressure causes the valve element 358 to move relative the orifice 320. A corresponding kit, method of installation and gas turbine assembly are disclosed.

Abstract: A turbine case cooling system including a turbine assembly having an inlet and an outlet and surrounded by a turbine casing. The turbine case cooling system is arranged to selectively impingement cool at least part of the turbine casing. The system includes an annular structure that is radially spaced from the turbine casing and includes a downstream end. The system includes an annular duct that is spaced radially outwardly from the turbine casing and radially inwardly from the annular structure. The duct is sealingly coupled to the turbine casing at a first end towards the turbine inlet, and a second end extends axially towards the downstream end of the annular structure and the turbine outlet.

The vent system comprises a flow controller arranged in use to control the quantity of fluid removal via the vent system in accordance with the sealing performance provided by the one or more seals, the vent system giving increased quantity of fluid removal for decreased sealing performance.

Abstract: An improved seal assembly for use with a combustion liner assembly is employed with a gas turbine engine so as to control fluid flow. The seal assembly has a bi-metal sealing member that is affixed to a first surface that is proximal to a second perpendicular surface that is not in contact with the first surface, thus providing a potential fluid flow path. Upon heating, the bi-metal sealing member “uncoils” contacting the second perpendicular surface, thus blocking the flowpath between the two surfaces. Various metals may be provided to provide predetermined sealing characteristics.

Abstract: Sub-boundary-layer-scale ramp-like vortex generators that can be mounted on any surface such as the wing of an airplane, the inlet to a propulsion system, the hull of a ship, or any other surface over which a fluid moves, when the objective is to minimize drag, irreversibility losses, or other performance penalties that can occur for reasons such as boundary layer separation or other undesirable boundary layer properties. The disclosed devices acts to passively induce streamwise vortices in the boundary layer, thereby transferring high-momentum fluid toward the surface in such a way as to alter the shape of the velocity profile within the boundary layer and thereby avoid or delay separation or alter other properties of the boundary layer.
