Abstract: A combustor for a gas turbine has a combustor liner including an outer liner and an inner liner, a combustion chamber being defined between the outer liner and the inner liner. The combustion chamber includes a primary combustion zone at an upstream end of the combustion chamber. The combustor also includes an outer liner expanded primary volume portion, and a secondary outer liner portion. One of the outer liner expanded primary volume portion and the secondary outer liner portion is movable to adjust a volume of the primary combustion zone by opening and closing access to the outer liner expanded primary volume portion so as to increase and to decrease the volume of the primary combustion zone.

Abstract: A fuel system including a fuel metering unit, a heat exchanger, a plurality of fuel nozzles, and a coke filtration system. The fuel metering unit is configured to meter a flow of a hydrocarbon fuel. The heat exchanger is fluidly connected to the fuel metering unit. The heat exchanger is configured to heat the hydrocarbon fuel to improve engine performance or efficiency. The plurality of fuel nozzles is fluidly connected to the heat exchanger downstream of the heat exchanger to receive the hydrocarbon fuel heated by the heat exchanger. The coke filtration system includes at least one filter to remove coke particles in the heated fuel. The coke filtration system is located upstream of the plurality of fuel nozzles and directly downstream of the heat exchanger.

Abstract: A swirler assembly for use in a combustor includes a first air swirler having a first swirler vane assembly, a second air swirler adjacent the first air swirler and having a second swirler vane assembly, and a ferrule coupled to the first air swirler and the second air swirler. The ferrule includes a ferrule swirler having a plurality of vanes. The first swirler vane assembly is configured to generate a first radial rotating airflow, and the second swirler vane assembly is configured to generate a second radial rotating airflow. The plurality of vanes of the ferrule swirler are configured to generate a ferrule axial airflow to interact with and mix to with the first radial rotating airflow and the second radial rotating airflow.

Abstract: An integrated fuel cell and combustor assembly, and a related method. The assembly includes a combustor having a combustor geometry and a combustor exit temperature. The assembly further includes multiple fuel cells fluidly coupled to the combustor, the multiple fuel cells being configured to generate a fuel cell power output using fuel and air directed into the multiple fuel cells and to direct a fuel and air exhaust from the multiple fuel cells into the combustor. The multiple fuel cells include multiple fuel cell control groups arranged in a predetermined electrical configuration about the combustor geometry. Each of the multiple fuel cell control groups has an adjustable electrical current bias.
