The unit includes a frame having a seal forming portion, first and second end seals contactable to the carrier surface to prevent carrier-axial-direction leaking of the developer, and a blade sealer sealing between the regulating member and the frame to prevent developer leaking when the regulating member is mounted. The blade sealer is an elastomer resin material which is injection-molded with a metal mold and in the seal forming portion where the end seals are provided. The blade sealer connects the end seals with each other, and a protrusion provided by a squeezed-out portion of the resin material is provided by injecting, into a space defined by the metal mold, the seal forming portion, and the end seals, a resin material volume larger than a volume of the space.

In conventional image forming apparatus, there is a type of a printer in which a developing device and a developer supplying container are separately provided and the developer supplying container is replaced individually to supply a developer that is an expendable agent. The printer of this type has an advantage that it is unecessary to replace frequently the component having a relatively long durable life, while the printer has the disadvantage that leakage of the developer easily occurs when the developer supplying container is removed from the printer main body. Therefore, an image forming apparatus capable of controlling leakage of developer is provided.

A developer charging device for charging developer with electricity includes a developer charging member a reciprocating unit, and an attitude maintaining unit. The developer charging member is arranged at a position downstream relative to a transfer device transferring a developer image from an image carrier to an image receiving member and upstream relative to a charging device for electrically charging the image carrier as viewed in the moving direction of the image carrier. The developer charging member is held in contact with the image carrier so as to electrically charge residual developer on the image carrier. The reciprocating unit reciprocates the developer charging member in a direction of a generating line of the image carrier. The attitude maintaining unit maintains an attitude of the developer charging member relative to the image carrier regardless of a reciprocation of the developer charging member by the reciprocating unit. The attitude maintaining unit includes at least one spacer arranged in contact with the image carrier in order to maintain a positional relationship between the developer charging member and the image carrier.
