Abstract: A crossbow with an improved cocking assembly. The improvement includes a means for automatically disengaging a hook associated with a cocking assembly from a bowstring once the bowstring has been drawn the desired distance behind a bowstring retainer. The automatic disengagement of the hook from the bowstring reduces movement and sound associated with disengagement, and reduces the likelihood of injury associated with placement of the fingers in front of the cocked bowstring. The disengagement mechanism may either be mechanical or magnetic as desired.

Abstract: A cranking mechanism preferably includes a planetary gear, a drive shaft, a one way bearing, a clutch assembly, and at least one drive unit. The clutch preferably includes a clutch pressure plate, a flywheel, friction surfaces and at least one friction plate. Each drive unit includes a carrier, a spool and a flywheel. The one way bearing and the clutch assembly are axial on the drive shaft. A pressure locking nut is threaded on to a threaded end of the crank shaft to exert pressure on the clutch assembly. The sun gear is fixed on the drive shaft. The at least one drive unit is axial with the drive shaft, and fixed with the carrier of the planetary gear set. The pressure locking nut is tightened against the clutch assembly to frictionally engage the drive shaft with the at least one drive unit.

Abstract: An improved crossbow lock mechanism assembly includes a trigger housing, a seer lever, a seer lock lever, a latch, trigger, a spring, a detent ball, and a safety slide bar having one ball detent. Selectively positioning the safety slide bar in a safe position, the spring forces the detent ball into a safety detent notch, which holds the safety bar in safety position, thus preventing movement of the seer lever. Selectively positioning the safety slide bar in a fire position results in the spring creating friction between the ball and safety bar, thus holding safety bar in place and allowing movement of the seer lever. A second embodiment uses a pivoting safety lock lever. The engagement of the seer lever with the string latch is indirect, because of a roller pin spaced therebetween. A third embodiment includes a safety slide bar, which makes indirect contact with the seer lever.

Abstract: A vibration dampened barrel for a crossbow preferably includes at least two vibration dampening chambers, which extend at least a portion of a length of the vibration dampened barrel. The at least two vibration dampening chambers are at least partially filled with a vibration dampening material, such as silicone, rubber, low density foam, high density foam, or any other suitable material that absorbs noise and or vibration.
