A printing mechanism (10) includes a plurality of setting wheels (16) which are rotatably mounted about a common axis and with which endless printing bands (20) are in drive connection which carry in a region of their length at the outer surface printing types (22) and in another region of their length carry at the outside indicating types (24). The printing bands (20) are led round the setting wheels (16) and a deflection edge (18) spaced therefrom. By turning the setting wheels (16) said bands are adjustable. In another region of their length they are provided at the inner surface with teeth (50) for engaging in corresponding recesses (52) in the setting wheels. A setting shaft (42) carrying an actuating knob (48) can be brought into a drive connection with the setting wheels (16). To limit the turning angle of the setting wheels (16) stop means are provided which include stop shoulders (74, 78) disposed in the path of movement of the tooth (50) lying at the front in the particular adjustment direction of the printing bands (20). The stop shoulders are disposed directly adjacent the deflection edge (18).

6-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid can be selectively acetylated to 6-acetoxy-2-naphthoic acid, in particular in the presence of admixtures of isomeric hydroxy-naphthoic acids, and thus be separated from those isomeric admixtures. The acetylation is affected in aqueous alkaline solution by reaction with acetic anhydride. By hydrolysis of the 6-acetoxy-2-naphthoic acid, a pure 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid is obtained.

The invention relates to a printing mechanism comprising a plurality of setting wheels (16) which are mounted coaxially on a sleeve (28) and with which type carriers (20) carrying printing types (22) are in a drive connection. In the sleeve (20) a setting shaft (42) is disposed axially displaceably and rotatable therewith. Disposed on the setting shaft is at least one tooth (36, 38, 40) projecting through a slot (30, 32, 34) extending in the axial direction in the sleeve (42). This tooth (36, 38, 40) can be brought by axial displacement of the setting shaft (42) into engagement with radial recesses (46) in the setting wheels (16) disposed in the hub region of the setting shaft (42). The slot (30, 32, 34) formed in the sleeve (28) is open in the axial direction at one end of the sleeve (42) and closed at the other end and at the end of the sleeve (28) at which the slot (30, 32, 34 ) is open a spreading or expansion means (60) is disposed which keeps the sleeve internal diameter constant.

New water-insoluble compounds have been found of the formula ##STR1## wherein n is 1, 2 or 3, each R, different or the same, is halogen, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, phenoxy, phenoxy substituted by halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, or is hydroxy, cyano, trifluoromethyl, carboxy, lower carbalkoxy or lower alkanoyl or benzoyl or benzoyl substituted by halogen, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy, and Z is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkoxy, nitro or cyano, which are well suitable as pigments for dyeing polymer masses, lacquers, caoutchouc, synthetic leather or spin-dyeing viscose or cellulose acetate, for paper and printing pastes. The dyeings obtained with them are excellently fast to light, weather and organic solvents and to the action of heat and are distinguished by a high tinctorial strength, good transparency and very clear shades.
