A description of management operations and corresponding timestamps are recorded to an operation log stored in a memory.     摘要: An apparatus, system, and method enable access to a storage system by distinguishing SCSI Object-Based Storage Device Commands (OSD) commands from block-based SCSI commands on the same port and storage subsystem. The storage subsystem has the capability of identifying the storage protocol from a corresponding command, and processes the command accordingly for a storage device formatted for use with the respective storage protocol. This way, a storage subsystem can consolidate data from several dedicated command ports to a single physical port, while also enabling a single storage system to store and provide access to data in multiple different storage protocol formats.

    摘要: A storage system comprises a primary storage system comprising a primary storage apparatus and a primary control apparatus for controlling the primary storage apparatus; and a secondary storage system comprising a secondary storage apparatus and secondary control apparatus for controlling the secondary storage apparatus. The primary storage apparatus and the secondary storage apparatus are connected to each other via a communication line. The primary storage system sends, to the primary storage apparatus, a data-transfer instruction instructing the primary storage apparatus to transfer predetermined data stored in the primary storage apparatus to the secondary storage system. The primary storage apparatus receives the data-transfer instruction, reads out the predetermined data from the primary storage apparatus, and sends the data via the communication line to the secondary storage apparatus of the secondary storage system.

    摘要: A computer system which has a plurality of computers and a storage device subsystem connected to the plurality of computers. The storage device subsystem has a plurality of storage devices and a plurality of interfaces, through which the subsystem is connected to the computers. One of the plurality of computers has a management means for holding therein data indicative of the storage devices and a connection relationship between the computers and storage device subsystem. Each computer, when wanting a new device, informs the management means of its capacity and type. The management means receives its notification and selects one of the storage devices which satisfies the request. And the management means instructs the storage device subsystem to set predetermined data in such a manner that the computer can access the selected device. The management means also returns predetermined data to the computer as a device assignment requester, the assignment requester computer modifies setting thereof to allow the computer in question can use the assigned device.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for a storage system for storing data on an object basis, where the object has attribute information and data. The storage system has a plurality of (N) data storage devices and at least one redundant data storage device. When the storage system receives a write request with an object, the object is divided into N sub-objects each of which have the same size. Thereafter, each of the N sub-objects is written to the data storage devices. Further, the parity is calculated from each of the sub-objects. In one embodiment the parity is stored in a redundant data storage device.

    摘要: By incorporating a referral mechanism, a failover method and system for remotely mirrored clustered file servers enables a client computer to transparently access a remotely mirrored file system during a failover of a first NAS (network attached storage) storing the file system. The first NAS is clustered with a second NAS that takes over the IP address of the first NAS on failover. A mirroring relationship is established between the first NAS and a third NAS whereby a copy of the file system is replicated to the third NAS. A referral is created on the second NAS, such that an access attempt from the client computer for accessing the first file system that is directed to the second NAS following IP address takeover from the first NAS after failover is referred to the third NAS by the referral to enable the client computer to access the copy of the file system.

    摘要: A system and method for managing transactions of application programs at a storage system enables data protection on a per-transaction basis. The storage system receives an instruction indicating a beginning of a transaction, and determines at least one primary volume for receiving data for the transaction. The storage system also provides a log volume for initially storing write data designated for the primary volume associated with the transaction. When the transaction is successfully completed the data stored in the log volume for the transaction is applied to the primary volume.
