Abstract:
A smoking article (10) incorporates a liquid release component (20), the liquid release component comprising a sustained release liquid delivery material comprising: a closed matrix structure comprising a cross-linked polymer matrix defining a plurality of domains; and a liquid composition that is trapped within the domains and is releasable from the closed matrix structure upon compression of the material. The force/displacement curve (30) obtained upon compression of the smoking article (10) at the location of the liquid release component (20) in a force/displacement test comprises a plurality of local minima (32) in the force level over a range of compression of at least 1 mm, wherein each of the local minima (32) corresponds to a reduction in the force level of at least 1 Newton.
Abstract:
A method for the production of a flavor granule for a smoking article comprises the steps of: a) forming an inner core by compaction of particles of herbaceous plant material; b) providing a coating suspension of colored binder particles comprising at least one colorant and at least one polymeric binder in a solvent; c) applying the coating suspension to the outer surface of the inner core to form an outer layer, wherein the coating suspension is applied to the inner core within a coating system and wherein within that coating system the vapor pressure of the solvent is greater than 5 kPa; and d) drying the outer layer to evaporate the solvent.
Abstract:
A packaged tobacco product includes a pouch and tobacco material disposed in the pouch. The pouch has a front wall and a back wall connected to one another along opposing first and second side edges. The pouch is configured to be opened along a top portion of the pouch to form an opening to provide access to the tobacco material in the pouch. The pouch includes a closure assembly having first and second releaseably attachable parts. The first part is on the front wall of the pouch. The second part is on either the front wall or the back wall of the pouch. The second part is closer to the opening than the first part. When the first and second parts are attached, a portion of the back wall wraps around at least a portion of the second part of the closure assembly to seal the pouch.
Abstract:
A re-sealable cuboid-like package for loose smokable material formed from a one-piece multilayer blank. The package includes a receptacle portion (6) for containing loose smokable material (4) with an access opening (28) and a flap (8) moveable between a folded position, in which the flap is folded at least partly around the receptacle and overlies the opening, and an extended position, in which the flap extends outwardly from the receptacle portion. A re-sealable cover layer (30) is attached to an inner surface of the flap (8) to enable movement of the layer between a closed position in which it covers the access opening and an open position in which the access opening is substantially uncovered, the cover layer being sealed in place by a repositionable adhesive.

Abstract:
A smoking article (10) incorporates a liquid release component (20), the liquid release component comprising an inner core of a sustained release liquid delivery material and a frangible outer shell encapsulating the inner core. The liquid delivery material comprises a closed matrix structure comprising a cross-linked polymer matrix defining a plurality of domains; and a liquid composition that is trapped within the domains and is releasable from the closed matrix structure upon compression of the material. The frangible outer coating comprises at least one film-forming polymer and at least one plasticiser.
Abstract:
There is provided a smoking article comprising a filter. The filter comprises a hollow tube having an inner surface. The filter further comprises a flow restrictor disposed in the hollow tube, and adapted to divert at least a portion of the flow of mainstream smoke between an outer surface of the restrictor and the inner surface of the hollow tube. Furthermore, the filter comprises a retaining element disposed downstream of the flow restrictor, the retaining element having one or more openings. Each of the openings of the retaining element has at least one cross-sectional dimension that is smaller than the smallest cross-sectional dimension of the flow restrictor to prevent the flow restrictor from moving downstream of the retaining element. The flow restrictor is substantially spherical, at least one cross-sectional dimension of the one or more openings of the retaining element being smaller than the diameter of the flow restrictor.
Abstract:
There is provided a filter for a smoking article, the filter including a filter segment of filter material and a flow restrictor. The flow restrictor is embedded in the filter segment and surrounded on all sides by the filter material. A cross sectional dimension of the flow restrictor measured perpendicular to a longitudinal direction of the filter is between about 60% and about 95% of the diameter of the filter segment. There is also provided a smoking article including such a filter.
Abstract:
The container may comprise a box, a lid, at least a first bundle and a second bundle of consumer goods, and an expandable spacer. The expandable spacer comprises at least one spacer weakening line. The at least one spacer weakening line is provided on the spacer bottom wall. The expandable spacer has an initial size that is defined by an initial distance between the first side wall and the second side wall of the expandable spacer for containing a predetermined number of consumer goods. The spacer weakening line is configured to break when more than the predetermined number of consumer goods are inserted between the expandable spacer walls so that the first and the second side walls of the expandable spacer are spaced further apart. Methods of using disclosed containers are also disclosed.
Abstract:
A consumable product for use in an aerosol generating device is disclosed, the consumable product comprising a foam matrix (302); and a packaging element housing the foam matrix; wherein the packaging element is configured to hold the foam matrix in a first, compressed, configuration prior to use of the consumable product in an aerosol generating device, the packaging element having a first sacrificial seal, wherein upon opening the first sacrificial seal the packaging element holds the foam matrix in a second, less compressed, configuration.
