Abstract:
The present invention concerns an apparatus for receiving and feeding into a chipper wood to be chipped, said apparatus containing a feed conveyor receiving log bundles, a tumbling drum breaking the bundles, and a receiving conveyor. The feed conveyor is speed-controlled according to the position information of a log bundle, and the speed of rotation of the tumbling drum is adjusted depending on the amount of wood discharged from the drum. The position information of the log bundle is received for example from the torque moment or input power of the drives of the drum. Thereby the speed of the feed conveyor, respectively the rotation speed of the drum, is set to slow down as a result of the increasing toque moment or input power of the drum, respectively to speed up as a result of the decreasing torque moment or input power.
Abstract:
An apparatus for removing bark from a wood and bark containing log flow. The apparatus includes a number of bark separation units, each of the bark separation units comprising an aggregate of a toothed disc mounted on a first disc shaft and a smooth-surface disc mounted on a second disc shaft. The disc shafts are set crosswise relative to a feeding direction A applied to the log flow by the toothed disc upon the rotation thereof and at a distance from each other. The toothed disc and the substantially smooth-surface disc of a bark separation unit are set in a staggered fashion relative to each other in the axial direction of the disc shafts.
Abstract:
A feeding device for longitudinally feeding a tree stem comprises a breast part (2, 2') to be applied against the stem, and two separate feeding units (3, 3'), suitably in the form of endless chains which are movable towards and away from each other, such that they can be pressed against opposite sides of the stem. Each feeding unit is mounted on a holder (7) which is connected to a frame (1) carrying the breast part, by means of a parallel arm system comprising two arms (8, 9) each connected to the holder (7) and the frame (1) by joints 10, 11, 12, 13) whose axes of rotation extend at an acute angle to the axes of rotation of the feeding units. A piston and cylinder assembly (14) is mounted in a conventional way between diagonally opposite joints in the parallel arm system for pivoting the arms relative to the frame for automatically centering the device relative to the tree stem irrespective of varying stem diameters.
Abstract:
A log debraking machine including a rotor having a central opening and a plurality of debarking tools, a rotating means for rotating said rotor about its longitudinal axis, and a feeding means including a plurality of log gripping rollers positioned for rolling contact with the logs and for feeding logs in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The log gripping rollers are supported for movement toward and away from the longitudinal axis of the rotor, and apparatus is provided for biasing the rollers toward the longitudinal axis of the rotor. The apparatus for biasing applies a reduced force on the rollers when the rollers are between a first closed position adjacent the longitudinal axis and a first outward position and an increased force on the rollers when the rollers are positioned between a first outward position and an open position.
Abstract:
A log-feed apparatus used in a log-feed assembly, where the assembly functions to advance a log along a transport axis in a log-debarking system. An elongated arm in the apparatus is mounted at an inner end for swinging of its outer end toward and away from the transport axis. A spiked feed roll, journaled on the outer arm end for powered rotation about the arm's long axis, is carried on the outer end of a shaft which is journaled on the arm by a pair of axially spaced bearings. A gear reducer mounted on the arm, intermediate the arm ends, is driven by an arm-mounted motor through a flexible belt drive. The output of the gear reducer is drivingly connected to the inner end of the shaft by a torsionally flexible rotary coupling. The shaft and bearings journaling the feed roll on the arm act to isolate all components of the drive train which extend between the shaft and motor from substantially all but torsional load transmitted by the feed roll during operation of the log-feed assembly.
Abstract:
Chain type log transports are located at the infeed and outfeed sides, respectively, of a rotary barking ring and are constructed to be positioned as close as possible to the barking ring to transport logs of minimum length through the barking ring. The transports include flights with centrally depressed portions, which flights are mounted by their tips on spaced conveyor chains so as to minimize the radius of the arcs traversed by the flights adjacent to opposite sides of the log-barking ring to enable the flights to be placed as close as possible to the log-barking ring. The radius of the arcuate flight paths is further minimized by the flights being tapered in cross section away from their log-cradling sides to avoid interference between adjacent flights as they turn through their arcuate paths adjacent to the opposite sides of the log-barking ring.
Abstract:
A rotary log barker ring and a log hold-down are suspended from a lever beam swingable to raise or lower the hold-down twice as far as the barker ring, for centering the barker ring relative to a log to be barked when the hold-down engages the upper surface of the log. The position of the barker ring is maintained briefly after the log has moved out of engagement with the hold-down to enable the trailing end of the log to clear the barker ring before the ring is shifted into a predetermined position of rest or a position centered with respect to the next log.
