Abstract: An apparatus and a method for producing a one-part vehicle wheel are provided, in which a substantially disk-shaped, undercut-free pre-form is cast. Immediately after casting the pre-form is conveyed to a flow-forming machine, while maintaining a residual heat and is fixed therein. The circumferential area of the fixed pre-form is split and, by subsequent spinning and flow-forming, is constructed as an intermediate form with a rim, which already substantially has the wall thickness of the rim of the finished vehicle wheel. The intermediate form is cooled, sized, and undergoes a final end-working.

Abstract: The process of the invention is designed for producing wheel rims having a snap-in groove on one side of the rim, in which a blank having an inner coned part for forming the eventual wall of the snap-in groove in the completed wheel rim and with an outer cylindrical part joined up with the smaller end of the coned part is formed on a spinning lathe using spinning rollers by outwardly bending and flaring the outer cylindrical part. In the process the blank is slipped onto a mandril which has a coned outer face to be in line with the coned form of the blank, while the outer cylindrical part of the blank stationarily extends out beyond the end of the mandril. Then the blank is gripped with an outer chuck and then at least one spinning roller, conforming to the desired form to be produced, is moved axially up against the end of the blank overlapping the mandril so that, while causing axial upsetting of the blank, the outer cylindrical part is bent outwards against the outer chuck for forming the outer wall of the snap-in groove.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for producing slant shoulder rims for tires including the steps of: forming a metal strip into a ring and welding a longitudinal seam to complete the ring. Then thickening the cross-sectional thickness of one end of the ring by upsetting one edge of the ring with axially advancing spinning roll followed by the step of drawing a snap groove in the thickened end of the ring by radially advancing spinning rolls to form the groove indentation therein. Spinning rolls are used to bend back the outer wall of the snap ring groove. A draw spinning step forms a rim base with a profile of constant strength. A wheel flange is erected into an upright position by a spinning operation on the other end of a ring. During the erecting of the wheel flange the ring is clamped within an internal chuck while one or more spinning rolls having the surfaces for forming the wheel flange are advanced to complete the spinning operation. The outer edge of the wheel flange is severed after being erected.
