    Abstract: In a method for making a packaging blank, dimensions are detected and memorized, of an upper face, a bottom face and lateral faces of an article to be boxed using the blank. On the basis of the dimensions, a first and a second longitudinal score line, parallel to one another, and a first and a second transversal score line, parallel to one another and perpendicular to the first and second longitudinal score lines, are made on the cardboard packaging blank so as to define a main portion, a first, a second, a third and a fourth lateral portion, and a first, a second, a third and a fourth reinforcing portion. A laser beam is used to make a first, a second, a third and a fourth incision on the first, second, third and fourth reinforcing portions, respectively.

    Abstract: A packaging system for high flexibility and speed box-last packaging comprises one or more dimensional scanning sensors that are configured to scan a group of one or more target products that are to be boxed and gather dimension information describing physical dimensions of the group of one or more target products. The system also comprises one or more packaging-production machines that are configured to generate custom-made packaging templates that conform to a pre-determined set of packaging template types. Additionally, the system comprises a packaging template buffer that comprises physically divided sections that contain multiple packaging templates selected from the pre-determined set of packaging template types that are generated by the one or more packaging-production machines. Each of the packaging templates are organized within the physically divided section based upon packaging template type.

    Abstract: The present invention provides methods of making films and methods of making packages. In one aspect, a method of making a film having a beta ratio and a permeability comprises: (a) selecting a polyolefin, the polyolefin comprising low density polyethylene, linear low density polyethylene, medium density polyethylene, high density polyethylene, polypropylene, polyolefin elastomer, polyolefin plastomer, or a combination thereof; (b) identifying a target beta ratio and a target oxygen permeability for the film; (c) selecting one or more additives based on the target beta ratio, the one or more additives comprising calcium carbonate, carbon black, ethylene vinyl acetate, or a combination thereof; (d) determining an amount of the selected additive(s) based on the target beta ratio and the target oxygen permeability; and (e) forming a film comprising the polyolefin and the selected additive(s), wherein the film has the target beta ratio and the target oxygen permeability.

    Abstract: The thermoforming assembly includes feeding devices for moving a continuous strip-shaped semi-finished product along a forwarding path, along which a forming mould is arranged defining a forming cavity delimited by a base wall, a first pair of respectively opposed side walls, and a second pair of respectively opposed side walls. Heating devices operate on the strip-shaped semi-finished product near the forming mould, and forming devices are operatively associated with the forming mould and configured to conform the strip-shaped semi-finished product against the base wall and the side walls defining the forming cavity. At least one of the side walls belonging to the second pair is a movable wall, positionable towards and away from the other side wall belonging to the second pair, to vary the dimension of the forming cavity.

    Abstract: A self-sealing container is formed from a blank comprising panels and end flaps connected along fold lines with the panels and the end flaps being foldable along the fold lines to form the container. The container includes a securing feature that seals the container in a closed position, with the securing feature providing a visual indication of opening if the container is opened from the closed position. After the container is opened, the securing feature provides a closure feature that allows the container to be closed.
