A disc drive includes a transducer having a separate element for writing information and a separate element for reading information to and from the disc. In a disc drive designated to read and write long sequential records, the track misregistration budget is reduced to account for previously written tracks not being encroached on one side. An initial track is written. Subsequent tracks are written after a seek in one direction. The subsequent track is written so that the initially written track is overwritten to one side and leaves a track having a width substantially equal to the width of the read element. Records can be written into data bands of a selected number of tracks. A guard band is left between groups of data bands so that data on tracks in subsequent data bands are not overwritten.

A Web-information-manager instance that makes a change in a collection file on a common storage facility shared with other instances leaves on that common storage facility an indication of a time by which the change was made and a log that identifies the data entities thus changed in that file. While another instance is using an entity object whose contents were copied from an entity in such a collection file, it repeatedly checks a timestamp associated with that file. If it thereby finds that a change has been made since it last checked, also reviews the entity-change log and updates its corresponding entity object if the log reflects a change since it last wrote to that object.
Abstract:
A disc drive having a pivot cartridge and an actuator assembly. The actuator assembly consists of an actuator body which has a bore therein to receive the pivot cartridge. The actuator body further consists of an opening which serves as a ledge to engage a biased retaining ring. The biased retaining ring couples onto the pivot cartridge and forces the pivot cartridge to contact against one side of the bore of the actuator body.

There is provided an inertial latching system which includes a first latch member configured to engage a second latch member at a junction point. The first latch member includes a latch pivot mounted to the base. One side of the latch pivot extends to form a first arm whilst a balancing mass is found at another side of the latch pivot. Joined to the first arm is a finger which provides a contact line ending in a proximal point. The second latch member has a contact surface which provides a contact point. The inertial latching system is configured such that the ratio of a first length to a second length is smaller than the ratio of a third length to a fourth length. The first length is defined as the distance from the proximal point to the junction point, the second length is defined as the distance from the proximal to the latch pivot, the third length is defined as the distance from the contact point to the junction point, and the fourth length is defined as a distance from the contact point to the actuator pivot.

A neutral, generally green colored, infrared energy and ultraviolet radiation absorbing glass composition comprises conventional soda-lime-silica float glass ingredients, a relatively high concentration of moderately reduced iron, and titanium oxide(s). The resultant glass exhibits an Illuminant A visible light transmittance of at least 70%, a total solar energy transmittance not greater than about 46%, and an ultraviolet radiation transmittance not greater than approximately 38%, at selected glass thicknesses in the range of 3 mm to 5 mm. The titanium oxide(s) as well as at least a portion of the iron in the glass is provided by the inclusion of the mineral ilmenite in the glass batch formulation.

A neutral, gray colored, nickel having a medium visible light transmittance between about 30 and percent, and low total solar energy and ultraviolet radiation transmittance, is produced with colorants comprising 0.40 to 0.58 percent by weight total iron expressed as Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 (22 to 26 percent reduced to FeO), 0.006 to 0.018 Co.sub.3 O.sub.4, and 0.0006 to 0.0015 percent Se. The glass product having such a composition is particularly suitable for architectural applications.

An infrared energy and ultraviolet radiation absorbing green-colored high total iron containing soda-lime-silica glass batch includes typical soda-lime-silica glass batch ingredients, an ultraviolet radiation absorbing quantity of a cerium containing compound, a high amount of total iron, and a surprisingly small amount of carbon which eliminates silica scum formation in the melt and silica inclusion faults in the finished glass.
