    摘要: Provided is an optical pickup which can eliminate a problem of causing a focus error signal and a tracking error signal to fluctuate due to interference of a signal light beam with a return light beam from another recording surface of a multi-layer optical disc during reproduction,comprising: a laser source for emitting an optical beam, an objective lens for focusing the light beam onto the multi-layer optical disc, a polarizing grating located at a position through which a reflected light beam from the multi-layer optical disc passes, for branching the reflected beam into at least two light beams, that is, a 0-order light beam and a +1-order light beam having a direction of polarization which is orthogonal to that of the 0-order light beam, an optical detector for receiving the two light beams, a first light receiving zone which is provided in the optical detector, and onto which the 0-order light is irradiated, and a second light receiving zone which is provided in the optical detector and onto which the +1-order light beam is irradiated, wherein the optical detector is capable of delivering a push-pull signal obtained from the first light receiving zone, and a signal obtained by a computation formula similar to the push-pull signal, from the second light receiving zone, and for delivering signals capable of creating a tracking error signal and a focus error signal from a difference signal between the two delivered signals.

    摘要: When recording/reproducing an optical disc having a recording layer of multi-layer structure, an unwanted optical beam reflected from a recording layer other than a target layer for recording/reproduction is incident on a photodetector to cause an unwanted disturbance component to leak to a detection signal, giving rise to a degradation in the quality of a tracking control signal. In an optical pickup apparatus, for suppression of the degradation, an optical element is mounted having a diffraction area for diffracting part of the optical beam and light receiving planes for sub-optical beams are provided each of which has a light shielding zone or dead zone of a predetermined width on its central sectioning line.

    摘要: An optical pickup and an optical information recording and reproducing device in which spherical aberration correction control after a disc is loaded can be efficiently made in a short time. Before an information recording medium is loaded into a drive, an optical axis direction position of a concave lens is preset to a state so as to optimize a converging spot on a recording surface of a single-layered medium of as a first recording medium or a predetermined layer (first layer having a substrate thickness of 0.1 mm) of a medium having two or more layers to which the recording/reproduction is executed by a laser light source. After the information recording medium is loaded, if it is determined to be a second (third) recording medium to which the recording/reproduction is executed by a laser light source, setting of the optical axis direction position of the concave lens is changed.

    摘要: An optical pickup has a semiconductor laser having two laser sources of different wavelengths disposed in the same package, one diffraction grating and one optical detector. A plurality of light reception areas each having four divisional light reception planes of a -character shape are disposed at positions where light beams reflected from an optical disc are applied. A focus error signal is generated by an astigmatism method by using independently these light reception areas and a tracking error signal is generated by a differential phase detection method by using one or both the light reception areas.

    摘要: An optical head eliminates an disturbance which occurs in a focus error signal in association with the decentering of an optical disk when an optical spot crosses a track on a storage film surface, and in addition the optical head cancels an off-set which occurs in a tracking error signal in association with the movement of an objective lens. In the constitution of the optical head, phases of wave surfaces of ±1st order diffracted lights are shifted by an amount of &lgr;/2 with a common period by using a phase-inverted diffraction grating the phase of which is inverted with a period of D &lgr;/(2P . NA) in a radial direction of the optical disk, thus causing, on the optical disk, sub-spots to be located on the same track as a main-spot. Taking advantage of this location, focal point shift error signals of the main-spot and the sub-spots are added to each other with an appropriate gain ratio, thereby making it possible to cancel the disturbance which occurs in the focus error signal. Meanwhile, tracking error signals of the main-spot and the sub-spots according to a push-pull method are subtracted from each other with an appropriate gain ratio, thereby making it possible to cancel the off-set.

    摘要: Disclosed is an optical pickup and an optical disc device using the same, each including a laser diode, a photo-detector having a region divided into at least six photo-detection areas, and a diffraction grating disposed between the laser diode and the photo-detector and having a region divided into four areas by cross-shaped division lines. The diffraction grating divides a light beam reflected from an optical disc into four diffracted light beams. A focus error signal in accordance with a knife edge method and two kinds of tracking error signals in accordance with a push-pull method and a differential phase detection method are detected by irradiating the light beams diffracted at the areas of the diffraction grating on the detection areas of the photo-detector and/or at boundary lines therebetween, and arithmetically operating light intensity signals obtained from the detection areas of the photo-detector. As a result, there can be realized an optical pickup and an optical disc device, each of which can be matched with various optical discs different in structure by detecting a tracking error signal in accordance with the push-pull method and a tracking error signal suitable for a read only disc using only one photo-detector. Further, in the present invention, a holographic element can be used as the diffraction grating.
