Abstract: A fiber optic connector is spliced to an optical fiber provided by a sheathed optical fiber and an optical fiber pigtail. The connector houses a protective sleeve that secures the splice area from damage due to movement of optical fibers during connecter use. The protective sleeve retains the sheathed optical fiber at a first end and secures the protective sleeve to a distal end of a ferrule flange assembly at a second end.

Abstract: A mechanical transfer ferrule is formed from a top housing and a bottom housing secured together with a plural of clips, catches and snap from a distal end of the housing portions to a proximal end of the housing portions. A plural of upper grooves formed in the upper housing and a plural of lower grooves formed in the lower housing accept a plural of optical fiber provided by a ribbon cable at a distal end of the mechanical transfer ferrule. At a proximal end of the upper housing is a pressure surface received in a pressure surface cut-out in the lower housing, where the pressure surface secures and orients the optical fiber within the channels formed by the upper and lower grooves to aid in repeated mating with a corresponding mechanical transfer ferrule and polishing the end face of the plural of optical fibers.

Abstract: Reversible polarity fiber optic connectors are provided having housings at least partially surrounding first and second optical ferrules with walls above and beneath the ferrules. Positioning removable elements such as latches, removable arms, or push-pull tabs on the first wall above the ferrules yields fiber optic connectors with a first polarity type, and positioning the removable elements on the second wall beneath the ferrules yields fiber optic connectors with a second, opposite polarity type. Abstract: A reversible polarity fiber optic connector includes an outer housing including a polarity key for coupling the outer housing to a fiber optic receptacle in only one orientation. A ferrule assembly is received in the outer housing in a first position corresponding to a first polarity of the fiber optic connector and in a second position corresponding to a second polarity of the fiber optic connector. The ferrule assembly forms an optical connection with the fiber optic receptacle. A boot assembly is releasably connected to the outer housing to enable the ferrule assembly to be inserted into and removed from the outer housing. The boot assembly includes a rotor rotatable between locked and release positions. The rotor includes a blocking portion to block disconnection of the boot assembly with the outer housing in the locked position and to permit disconnection of the boot assembly with the outer housing in the release position.
