Abstract: An ice maker uses a compression-drive refrigeration system charged with flammable refrigerant to cool an ice formation device and a water system to supply water to the ice formation device. A control system operates the water system and the refrigeration system for cooling the ice formation device with the refrigeration system to form water supplied to the ice formation device by the water system into ice. A natural gas sensor detects natural gas and outputs a detection signal indicating detection of natural gas. A controller is connected to the natural gas sensor for receiving the detection signal. The controller outputs a response signal in response to receiving the detection signal. The response signal is operative to initiate a gas leak response action.

Abstract: An ice maker has a bottom wall with a sensor opening. A time-of-flight sensor is supported in relation to the bottom wall such that the time-of-flight sensor can an optical pulse signal through the sensor opening toward the ice bin and subsequently detect a photon of the optical pulse signal that returns to the time-of-flight sensor through the sensor opening after reflecting off of one of a floor of the ice bin and ice in the ice bin. The time of flight sensor is configured to determine a duration between the emission of the optical pulse and the detection of the reflected photon(s). Based on the determined duration, the time-of-flight sensor or another processor can determine an amount of ice in the ice bin. The ice maker can be configured so that the time-of-flight sensor is removable, allowing a window pane of the time-of-flight sensor to be periodically cleaned.

Abstract: A gasket for a door of a refrigerated cabinet has a bellows chamber extending backward from a base connected to a door. A magnet chamber is supported on the bellows chamber, and a cantilevered arm extends from the inner side of the magnet chamber. The cantilevered arm includes a proximal middle chamber, a distal sealing bulb chamber, and a partition wall between the middle chamber and the sealing bulb chamber. A condensation shield is outward of an outer bellows chamber wall and extends from the base to the magnet chamber. An inner support chamber is received between the bellows chamber and a profiled section of the door. A wiper extends forward from the inner support chamber. The sealing bulb chamber is configured to be pressed backward against the wiper such that the gasket defines a supplemental chamber when the door is closed.

Abstract: A refrigerated cabinet is equipped with a thermal breaker between the cabinet liner and wrapper. The cabinet can operate at the −10° F. (−23° C.) set point in ambient conditions of at least 90° F. (32° C.) and at least 70% relative humidity without door frame condensation. A cabinet door gasket can have an inner sealing element that seals against the thermal breaker and an outer sealing element that seals seal against the wrapper. The wrapper can have a double return flange nested in an outer interface of the thermal breaker. The thermal breaker can hold a door frame heater inboard of a magnetic contact region with the door gasket. The frame heater can be located so that only plastic material is directly in front of the frame heater. Corner joiner elements can be ultrasonically welded to the thermal breaker to join four thermal breaker pieces together at mitered joints.

A distributor distributes the water along the top of the freeze plate to form ice across the width of the freeze plate as the water flows downward along the freeze plate. The distributor can be formed from two pieces that come together to form the freeze plate. The distributor can have various features that aid in providing a desirable distribution of water along the width of the freeze plate. Abstract: In an ice maker with a sump below an ice formation device and a pump for recirculating water from the sump to the ice formation device, water can drain through a stand pipe drain. A drain fitting is disposed in relation to a stand pipe such that the drain fitting's upper end is disposed above the top of the stand pipe, its lower end defines a water inlet adjacent the bottom of the sump, and its perimeter wall extends 360° about the stand pipe to define a drain passage extending from the water inlet to the top of the stand pipe. The upper end of the drain fitting defines a siphon release opening. The stand pipe drain can also include a valve for adjusting the drain between an overflow drain configuration and a siphon drain configuration.

Abstract: An asset management system includes an asset management network that connects various types of refrigeration appliances to an asset manager. At the device layer, IOT devices are connected to the refrigeration appliances and have edge compute capability, including a backup power management function, and a modem for network communication. IOT device ports directly integrate with sensors, switches, and/or serial data controllers of refrigeration appliances. Push notification alarms are initiated on the edge of the network by IOT devices. The network tags operating data by appliance serial, and the asset manager stores the data using serial numbers as primary keys. The asset manager streams data from numerous appliances and uses event driven processing to promptly respond to edge alarms. The operating data keyed by serial number is enriched with proprietary data organized by appliance type and is used to develop new predictive models by appliance type.

Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring refrigeration appliances remotely take corrective action to address failure to maintain recurrent maintenance schedules by either pushing a notification to an operator or sending a command to cause a controller of the appliance to switch to a restricted mode. The systems and methods can use periodic indications of ice level from an ice level sensor to determine that the level of ice in the bin is low, and in response, to either push a low ice notification to an operator or place an order for additional ice.
