摘要:
In a golf ball possessing a spherical surface having a first radius from a ball center, the spherical surface includes a plurality of small spherical regions having a second radius from the center which is smaller than the first radius. The golf ball is improved in flight performance owing to the reduced air resistance.

A golf ball composed of an elastic solid core and a resin cover enclosing said core and having a number of dimples in the surface thereof, which is characterized in that said elastic solid core has resilience such that the deformation is 3.0 to 5.0 mm when the load is increased from 98 N (10 kgf) to 1275 N (130 kgf), said cover has a gage of 1.2 to 2.1 mm and a Shore D hardness of 60 to 75, and said dimples are formed in two or more different patterns, with their number amounting to 250 to 370. This golf ball is superior in flight performance.

The invention provides a golf ball having a core, at least one intermediate layer encasing the core, and a cover. The intermediate layer is formed primarily of a specific ionomer resin composition that is highly neutralized. The cover is formed by injection molding a single resin blend composed primarily of a thermoplastic polyurethane and (g) a polyisocyanate compound in at least some portion of which all the isocyanate groups on the molecule are present in an unreacted state. The golf ball of the invention has a low spin rate on shots with a driver, enabling it to travel a good distance, and achieves a sufficient spin rate on shots with a short iron such as a wedge. The ball also has an excellent scuff resistance.

The invention provides a golf ball composed of a core, a cover having a plurality of dimples on an outside surface thereof, and an intermediate layer disposed between the core and the cover. The intermediate layer is formed of a highly neutralized resin material, and has a Shore D hardness below 50 and a thickness of at least 1.7 mm but not more than 6.0 mm. The cover and the intermediate layer have a difference in Shore D hardness therebetween (cover Shore D hardness−intermediate layer Shore D hardness) of from 13 to 35. The cover and the intermediate layer have a combined thickness greater than 3 mm. The ball as a whole has a deflection, when compressed under a final load of 130 kgf from an initial load of 10 kgf, of at least about 2.0 mm but not more than about 4.0 mm. The golf ball, through a combination of dimples which do not cause a loss of lift in the low-velocity, low-spin rate region of the ball trajectory and a low-spin construction, travels farther and is therefore beneficial for competitive use by both skilled and amateur golfers.

The invention provides a golf ball that is molded using a golf ball mold composed of a pair of mold halves, each having a hemispherical cavity, which when separably mated form an interior spherical cavity, the golf ball comprising a surface that includes an equator located at a place which corresponds to the parting line of the mold and a pole located at each of two vertices on either side of the equator, wherein the ball has on the surface thereof one or more dimple that lies across the equator and additionally has, at and near the poles, dimples some or all of which are formed to either a shallower depth or a smaller volume than dimples of the same diameter in other regions. The invention enables golf balls having numerous dimples formed thereon to be efficiently produced with a split mold. The golf balls thus obtained have a high symmetry performance.

A ballistic trajectory method for a golf ball is disclosed wherein a ballistic trajectory of a golf ball having a plurality of dimples formed on the surface thereof when the golf ball is hit to fly at an arbitrary number of rotations and an arbitrary initial speed can be estimated and ballistic trajectory and flight characteristics of the golf ball can be evaluated without depending upon experimental evaluation which is based on an actual model thereby to allow a golf ball to be developed efficiently. The ballistic trajectory of the golf ball when the golf ball is hit to fly is estimated by successively calculating the flight distance and the height of the ball after every lapse of a very short period of time after the ball is hit to fly until it drops to the ground making use of arithmetic operation by a computer.

In a golf ball composed of a resilient solid core and a resin cover which encloses the core and has on an outside surface thereof numerous circular dimples, the cover has a maximum thickness of 0.5 to 1.5 mm and is made of a polyurethane elastomer having a Shore D hardness of 40 to 58; the total number of dimples on the cover is from 390 to 420, of which 40 to 80 are small-diameter dimples with a diameter of 2.0 to 2.7 mm; and the dimples are arranged so that total planar surfaces circumscribed by dimple edges which delineate boundaries between individual dimples and surrounding land areas that form an outermost surface of the ball account for 74 to 84% to an imaginary sphere defined by the surface of the ball having no dimples thereon. The golf ball of the invention does not readily lose lift even near the highest point in the trajectory of the ball when it has been hit, and thus can beneficially increase the distance of travel.

A golf ball has a spherical surface bearing a plurality of plan view circular dimples and plan view non-circular dimples, which non-circular dimples have at a top edge position a contour length of at least 20 mm and account for at most 10% of all the dimples. The ball has a surface with a novel and unique aesthetic appearance, and exhibits an excellent flight performance.

The present invention provides a golf ball having an outer surface with recessed and/or raised features thereon and having markings shaped as letters or figures formed on the outer surface. The markings are depressions of a substantially uniform depth from the outer surface and are characterized by (1) or (2) below: (1) letting S be the number of the depressions of a substantially uniform depth from the outer surface and N be the total number of dimples on the outer surface, the ratio S/N×100 is 100% or less; (2) the markings are circular or elliptical, or are polygonal. The aerodynamic performance of the golf ball is improved by arranging the depressions of substantially uniform depth evenly on the surface of the ball.

In a golf ball having a spherical surface with numerous dimples thereon, the dimples have a diameter of 2 to 6 mm and number in all from 250 to 330, of which at least 60% are large dimples having a diameter of at least 4.5 mm. The volume of space in a dimple below a planar surface circumscribed by an edge of the dimple, summed for all the dimples on the surface of the ball, is from 320 to 360 mm3. The golf ball rises well when hit and is easy even for an inexperienced golfer to hit.
