Abstract: System, apparatus, and methods for controlling a motor by using servo-to-edge direction feedback are disclosed. An exemplary apparatus comprises: a fiber optic rotary junction (FORJ) having a rotatable portion; a motor to rotate the rotatable portion; a connector to connect the rotatable portion to a rotatable fiber of an imaging probe; a sensor positioned in close proximity to a target and configured to output a signal indicative of which one of at least two distinguishable regions of the target is proximal to the sensor; and a controller configured to control the rotational direction of the motor based on the sensor signal. In one embodiment, the motor is a servo-motor, and the rotation of the motor and/or rotatable portion is controlled by a servo-loop to change the rotation direction of the motor back-and-forth around a predetermined rotational position without the use of an encoder.

Abstract: One or more devices, systems, methods and storage mediums for performing common path optical coherence tomography (OCT) with a controlled reference signal and efficient geometric coupling are provided. Examples of such applications include imaging, evaluating and diagnosing biological objects, such as, but not limited to, for Gastro-intestinal, cardio and/or ophthalmic applications, and being obtained via one or more optical instruments, such as, but not limited to, optical probes (e.g., common path probes), common path catheters, common path capsules and common path needles (e.g., a biopsy needle). Preferably, the OCT devices, systems methods and storage mediums include or involve a reference reflection or a reference plane that is at least one of: (i) disposed in the collimation field or path; and (ii) is perpendicular (or normal) or substantially perpendicular (or substantially normal) to light propagation. One or more embodiments may include beam shaping optics to properly image luminal or other hollow structures or objects.

One or more embodiments may achieve polarization diversity and balanced detection (or photo-detection) under any imaging circumstances. One or more embodiments, may achieve polarization control functionality regardless of whether such control is automatic or manual. Additionally, one or more embodiments may achieve automated polarization control, may achieve balanced detection (or photo-detection), and/or may address potential disturbances, such as, but not limited to, polarization drift over time, temperature and/or mechanical perturbations or variations. One or more embodiments may include an optical receiver where polarization diversity and balanced detection may be optimized via motorized controls.

Abstract: An optical coherence tomography (OCT) system comprises an interferometer configured to generate interference light based on interference between a reference beam and a sample beam with which a sample has been irradiated. A detector operates to detect intensities of the interference light and/or one or more interference patterns; a processor is configured measure a signal falloff of the intensity of the interference light and/or the one or more interference patterns; and an optical delay line configured to adjust an optical path difference according to the signal falloff so as not substantially introduce artifacts to an image of the sample. In one embodiment, the optical delay line includes a main reflector consisting of a mirror and a Faraday rotator; the Faraday rotator is placed between the n and n+1 coherence revival modes of the interferometer, where n is greater than or equal to 1.
