    摘要: Optical network devices and method for optical network communications in discrete multi-tone (DMT) are provided. A serial information signal is converted to groups of bits and loaded to parallel processing branches based on bit rates of the parallel processing branches. Each branch is configured to encode the associated group of data bits on the associated tone. A first bit rate and modulation and power allocation to a first branch of the branches may be different from a second bit rate and modulation and power allocation to a second branch of the branches. To recover the incoming data, the encoded signal may be parallel-processed using branches with different demodulation formats and provide the serial data stream.

    摘要: An apparatus and method for performing joint equalization and timing recovery in coherent optical systems. The method includes equalizing signals to generate compensated polarization signals, wherein timing error in a distorted optical signal is calculated based on one of the compensated polarization signals. The method further includes performing resampling polarization signals to correct timing offset in an optical signal based on the calculated timing error. The calculated timing error may also be used to adaptively control one or more operating parameters of an external device.

    摘要: In a direct-detection receiver having an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) for sampling a received optical signal and a sequence estimator for recovering data symbols from a multi-bit sample stream generated by the ADC, a method of acquiring a channel lock condition of a clock recovery block of the receiver. A plurality of sets of channel statistics are provided. Each set of channel statistics optimizes performance of the sequence estimator for a respective predetermined combination of channel chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion. At least one set of channel statistics will, when installed in the sequence estimator, yield symbol estimates having residual distortions that are within an acquisition range of the clock recovery block. During start-up of the receiver, one of the sets of channel statistics is selected and installed in the Sequence Estimator. If a channel lock condition is not detected within a predetermined time interval, the step of selecting one of the sets of channel statistics and installing the selected set of channel statistics in the Sequence Estimator is repeated until a channel lock condition is detected.

    摘要: In general, according to an embodiment, a wireless transmitter includes a plurality of coding and modulation modules to apply corresponding coding and modulation algorithms to input information blocks. A discrete Fourier transform (DFT) precoder applies DFT processing to outputs of the coding and modulation modules, and an inverse fast Fourier transform (IFFT) module receives a DFT output of the DFT precoder, which is mapped to different subcarriers according to the resource allocation indicated by the base station, and applies IFFT processing to the DFT output. An output processing stage produces output signals based on the output of the IFFT module to transmit wirelessly to a wireless receiver. In a different implementation, the outputs of the coding and modulation modules can be provided to an IFFT module to produce IFFT-processed output information.

    摘要: Described are an optical communications system and a method that allow for compensation of chromatic dispersion and polarization mode dispersion imparted to a communications signal propagating through an optical link. The system is based on a cost-effective optical transport architecture that accommodates baud rates exceeding 15 Gbaud and eliminates the need for costly optical dispersion compensators. Compensation for polarization mode dispersion is performed at the receiver using nonlinear processing. Advantageously, direct detection modulation using inexpensive electro-optic system components can be used in place of more costly and complex coherent and differential modulation formats. Digital filtering can be performed at the transmitter and the input signal can be inverted based on the nonlinearity of the transmitter electro-optic components. Consequently, the bandwidth and linearity requirements for the transmitter electro-optic components are relaxed, and cost reductions are realized.
