    摘要: A product and process for an LED printhead used in electrophotographic printing that generates an exposure clock on the printhead for the LEDs. The present invention provides a high-speed interface that transmits print data that has been modified, or corrected, using the corresponding unique printhead brightness data as the base reference source data to the printhead boards. The corrected print data is then applied to the LED drivers that expose each LED simultaneously and uniquely. A non-linear clock is applied to the LED drivers as the reference clock to create the unique LED on time circuit. An Exposure RAM stores the data as parallel 8-bit data. A LATCH code received at an ASIC converts the Exposure RAM data into a serial bit stream. The preferred embodiment employs a 60 MHz clock, however, it should be readily apparent that numerous other clocking speeds can be employed. From this a linear or non-linear clock stream is created allowing 256 unique (linear or non-linear) exposure on times to the printhead driver circuitry. This is accomplished with a non-linear clock stream which allows a unique period for each clock period which then allows each increment of exposure time to be unique.

    摘要: A system for performing edge enhancement of mixed low resolution image files employs a binarization and sorting unit to sort data that is indicative of binary data from the mixed low resolution image input file. The sorted binary data is then supplied to a binary data edge enhancement processor for edge enhancement processing. The output from the binary data edge enhancement processor unit is supplied to a data merger unit along with the original image data. The data merger unit determines whether the original image data was part of a gray-scale image. If the data merger determines the original data is part of a gray-scale image, the original data is supplied as the output of the processing system. If the data merger determines that the original data is binary image data, the output from the binary edge enhancement processor unit is supplied as the output of the processing system.

A document copying apparatus which generates a plurality of electrical image signals of successive picture elements of an original document compares input image signals representing low optical density picture elements of the original document to a series of threshold values selected from a two dimensional matrix halftone cell in which an output signal density pattern grows in a low spacial frequency manner; compares input image signals representing high optical density picture elements to a series of threshold values selected from a two dimensional matrix halftone cell in which an output signal density pattern grows in a high spacial frequency manner; and compares input image signals representing mid-optical density picture elements to a series of threshold values selected from the first or the second halftone cells according to the optical density of the picture element.

    摘要: An input scanner and print engine system corrects for color interpretation errors in the input scanner's color filter set and maps the requested input colors to an output color printable by the printer in a uniform color space. A 3.times.3 transform matrix partially corrects for the color interpretation errors of the color filter set as well as maintaining the neutrality in the transformation and a non-linearly loaded lookup table further corrects the color interpretation errors for outlying datapoints in the actual color space. A color gamut compression lookup table is used to perform non-linear compression for each axis of the color space. Inside the output color gamut, a substantially one-to-one correspondence is performed by the compression table but near the outer color gamut boundary, compression is non-linearly performed. In this manner, colors lying outside of the printable output color gamut are compressed to a region within or on the surface color of the printable color gamut.

    摘要: Apparatus and method for producing a page output from electronic input data consisting of text and line graphics information and of pictorial information. The text and graphics information is converted to two-bit per pixel data and stored in a page buffer. The pictorial information is originally stored at its originating pixel resolution and at a bit level sufficient to represent the full color content. This pictorial data is expanded to a finer pixel resolution at a four-bit level, per color, at the time data is to be merged with the text and graphics data. The merging is accomplished in a band or line buffer which combines the two-bit and four-bit data. A location table is used to keep track of the bit level transitions and to signal the output device that the data is in a particular format.

    摘要: A grey level non-impact recording apparatus and method provides data signals to a recording head having N recording elements per inch so that M sub-lines per inch can be recorded, wherein M is greater than N. In a specific example of a 400 dpi LED printhead, grey level data is sent to the printhead at a rate to record say 2400 lines per inch to provide a resolution of 400 dpi.times.2400 dpi grey level sub-pixels. Data from a data source may have a pixel resolution of 1/400".times.1/400" and the apparatus employs six sub-lines to record each of these pixels. The control for controlling the duration of recording of each LED for each sub-line includes a comparator which receives a grey level data signal at one input terminal and pulses representing a time changing count at another terminal. The count is produced by counter means and changes in response to signals from a clock means. Fine control over exposure, particularly at the "toe" of the exposure curve, is provided by a vernier-like clocking scheme wherein the counter means responds to alternate master clocks during recording of alternate sub-lines. The master clocks generate clock pulses at slightly different frequencies which thereby affect fine differences in the timing of the pulses from the counter means. In one embodiment the clock means may be a programmable non-linear clock and provides a greater range of grey level recording.

    摘要: An LED printhead includes an optical mask overlying the LED's to balance light outputs therefrom. The transmission density of the mask is adjusted for each LED in accordance with its respective light output to adjust same so that the light outputs from all LED's are the same. The mask comprises a micro-lenslet incorporating a UV fadeable dye whose transmission density is adjusted with a UV laser or other light source while monitoring the light output from the respective LED. The transmission density of the mask may be adjusted by a UV light source provided on the printhead during periods of nonuse of the printhead or the printhead may be removed from the recording apparatus for adjustment. The micro-lenslet is formed by depositing a liquid polymeric binder in droplet form over the LED and having same set to form the lenslet in situ.
