Abstract: In one aspect, an example method for generating a candidate image for use as backdrop imagery for a graphical user interface is disclosed. The method includes receiving a raw image and determining an edge image from the raw image using edge detection. The method also includes identifying a candidate region of interest (ROI) in the raw image based on the candidate ROI enclosing a portion of the edge image having edge densities exceeding a threshold edge density. The method also includes manipulating the raw image relative to a backdrop imagery canvas for a graphical user interface based on a location of the candidate ROI within the raw image. The method also includes generating, based on the manipulating, a set of candidate backdrop images in which at least a portion of the candidate ROI occupies a preselected area of the backdrop imagery canvas, and storing the set of candidate backdrop images.

Abstract: An apparatus for edge aware upscaling is described herein. The apparatus comprises a potential edge detector, a thin-edge detector, a one-directional edge detector, a correlation detector, and a corrector. The potential edge detector identifies potential edge pixels in an input image, and the thin-edge detector detects thin edges in the potential edge pixels of the input image. The one-directional edge detector detects one-directional edges in the potential edge pixels of the input image, and the correlation detector detects strongly correlated edges in the potential edge pixels of the input image. The corrector derives a target output value based on an edge type and classification of a corresponding input pixel as identified by a source map point.

Abstract: Methods and systems for denoising media frames captured in low-light environment are provided. A method includes obtaining a media frame in pixel space using adaptive trimming of Fourier coefficients of an input media frame based on a threshold criterion, and obtaining a media frame in curvelet space by performing curvelet transform on the media frame in pixel space, extracting a texture frame based on texture details and a homogeneous frame based on homogeneous details, present in the media frame in pixel space, performing longitudinal and latitudinal filtering of the texture and homogeneous frames downscaled by a same factor, integrating the longitudinal and latitudinal filtered texture and homogeneous frames, upscaling the integration to obtain a curvelet media frame, and obtaining an output media frame by sharpening the curvelet media frame in multiple iterations based on partially sharpened curvelet media frames, the curvelet media frame, and the media frame in curvelet space.

Abstract: A method for rendering a 3D object comprises receiving data for a first 3D object at a first resolution, and receiving data for a second 3D object at a second resolution, lower than the first resolution. Each shared border between the first 3D object and the second 3D object includes one or more shared edges that include corresponding edges of the first and second 3D objects. Relative resolutions are identified for each shared edge of the shared border. An adjusted version of the first 3D object is generated, wherein for at least some shared edges of the shared border, the resolution of the edge of the first 3D object is adjusted to be equal to the corresponding edge of the second 3D object. The adjusted version of the first 3D object is rendered, and the second 3D object is rendered.
