摘要: A server system having one or more processors and memory receives a request including server identifiers for one or more other server systems and processes the respective request. Upon completing processing of the respective request, the server system determines whether enough other server systems have undertaken responding to the respective request. When enough other server systems have not undertaken responding to the respective request, the server system sends the response to the client system from which the request was received, and sends a message to one or more of the other server systems indicating that the server system has undertaken responding to the respective request. When enough other server systems have undertaken responding to the respective request the server system foregoes sending a result of the processing to the client system from which the request was received.

摘要: A method for processing a client-initiated request by: receiving from a client a request including server identifiers for one or more other servers; determining whether at least a first predefined number of the other servers have a predefined task-processing status for the request; in accordance with a determination that less than the first predefined number of the other servers have the predefined task-processing status for the request: sending a processing-status message to one or more the other servers indicating that the respective server has undertaken performance of the respective task-processing operation for the request; performing the respective task-processing operation; upon completing processing of the request: determining whether a second predefined number of the other servers have undertaken responding to the request; in accordance with a determination that at least the second predefined number of the other servers have undertaken responding to the request, foregoing sending a result to the client.

摘要: A computer-implemented method includes calculating first statistics about a user-identified event within a first subset of a database of events; selecting a second subset of the database of events based on said first statistics; calculating second statistics about the user-identified event within the second subset of the database of events; merging the first and second statistics as statistics of the user-identified event within the entire database of events; and generating a result including at least a portion of the merged statistics of the user-identified event.

摘要: Systems and methods are disclosed for searching across multi-lingual information. A user makes a query in a first language, and a group of documents that were previously machine-translated into the first language are searched for information responsive to the query. Contextual information derived can be used to improve the accuracy of the machine translation. Responsive documents are returned to the user. Alternatively, a query provided in a user's language may be translated into one or more other languages. Documents written in these languages can then be searched for information responsive to the appropriate translated query. Responsive documents can be translated into the user's language prior to providing them to the user.

摘要: A set of documents may be stored and indexed as a compressed sequence of tokens. A set of documents are grouped into clusters. Sequences of tokens representing the clusters of documents are encoded to elide some repeating instances of tokens. A compressed sequence of tokens is generated from the compressed cluster sequences of tokens. Queries on the compressed sequence are performed by identifying cluster sequences within the compressed sequence that are likely to have documents that satisfy the query and then identifying, within these identified clusters, the documents that actually satisfies the query.

摘要: The usefulness of content (target content), such as advertisements, may be increased by determining additional content and providing such additional content in association with the content. The target content may be text, a Web page, a URL, a search query, etc. The additional content might be related suggested queries (e.g. “Try a search for ______”), news articles (or excerpts or summaries thereof), reviews (or excerpts or summaries thereof), advertisements, user group messages, etc.
