Abstract: A communication method and apparatus are provided to reduce interference between different types of satellites. The method is: A terminal device determines a satellite type corresponding to a first area, and the terminal device determines, based on the satellite type, whether to access a network device covering the first area. The terminal device determines, based on the determined satellite type corresponding to the first area, whether the network device can be accessed, so that a type of the network device accessed by the terminal device is consistent with the satellite type of the first area, and the terminal device can access only one type of satellite. When a plurality of types of satellites reuse a same frequency, the terminal device may receive signals of the plurality of types of satellites in the first area.

Abstract: The technology of this application relates to a random access method, applied to the communication field. The method includes a terminal device sends, to a network device, a first message used to establish a wireless connection, the terminal device receives, a connection response sent by the network device, where the connection response includes information about a first polarization parameter, and when accessing the network device based on the connection response, the terminal device determines, based on the information about the first polarization parameter included in the connection response, whether the terminal device is qualified to access the network device. A dimension, namely, a polarization parameter, is introduced into a random access procedure, so that a preamble capacity is increased, a problem that the network device cannot identify a colliding terminal device is alleviated, and efficiency of establishing a communication connection between the terminal device and the network device is improved.

Abstract: A gateway station switching method and apparatus. When quality of a link from a terminal device to a source gateway station through a satellite is poor, the source gateway station sends third indication information to a target gateway station, so that the target gateway station feeds back second channel quality to the source gateway station, that is, quality of a link from the terminal device to the target gateway station through the satellite. The source gateway station determines, based on the second channel quality and first channel quality that represents the quality of the link from the terminal device to the source gateway station through the satellite, whether to switch the terminal device to the target gateway station.

Abstract: This application discloses a random access preamble configuration method applicable to a satellite network and a communication apparatus. In the method, a random access preamble location offset and duration of a PRACH occasion can be flexibly configured based on features of a satellite system. The method includes: A receiving apparatus receives first indication information, where the first indication information includes indication information used to identify the random access preamble location offset at the physical random access channel PRACH occasion. The receiving apparatus transmits a random preamble based on the first indication information, where the random preamble includes a sequence part and a guard time. Because a communication distance is relatively long and a transmission delay difference between users is relatively large in a satellite communication system, time domain resources occupied by the PRACH occasion can be minimized by using this method.

One example method includes generating a first signal and sending a first signal, where the first signal includes an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol, a first-type cyclic prefix (CP), and a second-type CP. CP resources of the second-type CP include one type of CP resource, that is, the second CP resource. The first CP resource may be used to carry data that is different from data carried on the OFDM symbol. The second CP resource may be used to carry data that is the same as the data carried on the OFDM symbol.
