摘要: An electronic weapon inhibits locomotion by a human or animal target by conducting a stimulus signal through the target. The electronic weapon includes an inductance, first and second energy stores, and a switch. The switch has a first position and a second position and is in series with first energy store and the inductance. Energy from the first energy store is transferred to a magnetic field of the inductance while the switch is operating in the first position. The stimulus signal comprises a first phase and a second phase. During the first phase, the switch is operated in the second position, and a flyback effect of the inductance provides an ionizing voltage for the stimulus signal. During the second phase, the second energy store releases energy for the stimulus signal at a voltage less than the ionizing voltage.

摘要: An apparatus impedes locomotion by a human or animal target by conducting a current through the target. The apparatus includes a battery, a circuit, and a processor. The circuit charges a capacitance to a predetermined voltage and discharges the capacitance to provide a pulse of the current. Charging occupies a first interval having a duration, the duration affected by an operating condition of the battery. The processor controls the circuit to provide a first series of pulses of the current, the first series having a first pulse repetition rate, the first pulse repetition rate being compensated by the processor for variations in the duration of the first interval.

摘要: A system according to various aspects of the present invention predicts remaining battery capacity for a battery used by a device. The system includes a memory that stores indicia of remaining battery capacity and a plurality of predefined increments of battery capacity consumption. The system further includes a circuit that determines a duration of operating corresponding to one or more of the increments and stores in the memory a predicted remaining battery capacity, adjusted in accordance with the duration and the one or more increments. Other systems, according to various aspects of the present invention, further include a display indicating remaining battery capacity, for example, as a percentage of initial battery capacity, and/or temperature compensation.

摘要: An electronic disabling device includes first and second electrodes positionable to establish first and second spaced apart contact points on a target having a high impedance air gap existing between at least one of the electrodes and the target. The power supply generates a first high voltage, short duration output across the first and second electrodes during a first time interval to ionize air within the air gap to thereby reduce the high impedance across the air gap to a lower impedance to enable current flow across the air gap at a lower voltage level. The power supply next generates a second lower voltage, longer duration output across the first and second electrodes during a second time interval to maintain the current flow across the first and second electrodes and between the first and second contact points on the target to enable the current flow through the target to cause involuntary muscle contractions to thereby immobilize the target.

摘要: A method for immobilization of a human or animal target passes a current through a circuit that includes tissue of the target. The current causes pain compliance or interferes with skeletal muscle control by the target. The method includes in any practical order: (a) generating a first compliance signal of the current, the first compliance signal having a first maximum amplitude; and (b) generating a second compliance signal of the current, the second compliance signal having a second maximum amplitude. The absolute value of the second maximum amplitude is less than the absolute value of the first maximum amplitude. A system that performs such a method may include a processor, a signal generator, and electrodes or terminals for forming the circuit through tissue of the target. Systems, according to various aspects of the present invention, may include stun guns, dart weapons, electronic control devices, electrified projectiles, and mines, to name a few applications.

摘要: An electronic control device includes an audio and/or video recorder, for example, packaged as a user-replaceable battery module. The audio and/or video recorder records audio and/or video information for a period beginning prior to receiving of a signal by the module. The signal may be a trigger signal, provided by the electronic control device. Use of the weapon module is documented by recorded audio and/or video information for the period, for example, extending a while before and after operation of the trigger.

摘要: An apparatus produces contractions in skeletal muscles of a target to impede locomotion by an animal or human target. The apparatus is used with at least one electrode for conducting a current through the target. The apparatus may be implemented as an electronic disabling device. The apparatus includes two circuits. The first circuit includes a transformer and a first capacitor. The second circuit includes a second capacitor and a secondary winding of the transformer. The second circuit is a series circuit with the electrode. In operation with the electrode, the transformer impresses a voltage on the electrode of greater magnitude than the first voltage, and the current is responsive to discharge of the first capacitor and discharge of the second capacitor.

摘要: An apparatus for impeding locomotion by a human or animal target conducts a current through the target. The apparatus includes a trigger, a circuit, and a display. The trigger provides a signal. The circuit, responsive to the signal, provides the current for an interval as a series of pulses, and that tracks a remaining time of the interval. The display provides a presentation in accordance with the remaining time. The presentation may include a decreasing digital count.
