When the parent film for air bearing is etched, the shielding film covering the protuberance is exposed. Etching is stopped as soon as exposure of the shielding film is detected. Since detection of the exposure of the shielding film can be made electrically, for example, a height difference between the aperture and the surface of the air bearing can be controlled highly precisely.
