摘要:
A method and apparatus for producing radioactive transmission measurements to form multi-dimensional attenuation correction data with a point source of radiation, such as required in positron emission tomography applications. This involves the passing of the point source proximate the face of each of the tomograph units for the formation of a 3-D image, or a selected portion of the tomograph units for a 2-D image. As such, attenuation data, transmission data, detector performance data, etc., can be obtained. This point source of radiation, in one embodiment, is rapidly circulated through a conduit that passes across each detector face under the influence of a transport fluid in, for example, an oscillatory motion to achieve a selected radiation field whereby calculation of transmission measurements within a body positioned within the tomograph scanner is achieved. When not being circulated, the radiation source is held within a shield. In another embodiment, the point source is a CT device. In a further embodiment, a single photon source is used in association with an ECAT ART having two oppositely disposed detector banks. One point source is provided for association with each detector bank. Each point source is capable of axial movement with respect to the detector banks, with the entire apparatus including the detector banks and the point sources being rotatable. Collimators are provided for each point source, the collimators and the point source being fixed with respect to each other, thus reducing the effects of dead-time during a transmission scan typically caused by the point source moving behind a collimator.

A veneer lathe is disclosed having a nose bar and drive assembly in place thereon. A nose bar shaft is splined lengthwise and supported by lathe mounted bearing assemblies. Rolls include splined inserts for shaft engagement. Roll surfaces are grooved for biased engagement with a wooden article installed in the lathe. Drive members are insertably engaged with ends of the nose bar shaft and with power transmission units in place on the veneer lathe. The drive members are disengaged from the nose bar shaft upon positioning of retainer caps on each power transmission unit.

A diffractive bifocal eye lens, an otpical system, and processes for fabrication of such lenses are disclosed. The optical system includes the following principal elements in optical alignment along an optical axis, for accomplishing the indicated steps of the process: a laser for emission of ultraviolet light along the optical axis; a zone plate mask in the path of irradiation by the laser; and an imaging lens to project, with radiation from the laser, an image of the mask on the concave inner surface of an eye lens mounted coincident with the image surface of the optical system, thereby ablating the eye lens imagewise of the mask to generate a phase zone plate on the eye lens. The laser beam scans the zone plate mask to generate a composite image on the image surface. Alternatively, the phase zone plate is generated on the concave surface of a glass blank at the image surface to form a tool from which molds, and in turn lenses, are replicated. The light source is an argon fluoride excimer laser, emitting at 193 nm. The lens is a variable magnification lens to project various size images of the mask for producing zone plates of various powers as desired.

A system is provided for weighing railroad cars coupled in motion by providing a first scale and a second scale located forward of the first scale. The railroad cars are moved over the first and second scales, the rear trucks of the railroad cars are weighed on the first scale and the weight is stored. While the rear truck of a railroad car under consideration is on the first scale, the front truck of the railroad car under consideration plus the rear truck of the just preceding railroad car are weighed on the second scale. The weights on the first and second scales are totaled and the stored weight of the rear truck of the just preceding railroad car is subtracted to obtain the full draft weight of the railroad car under consideration. The railroad car under consideration may be loaded while it is being weighed and in motion. A preload compensating amount is added to the totaled weights on the first and second scales to compensate for the weight of material that will continue through the chute after the chute is closed. A plurality of discrete weighings is performed during loading of the railroad car under consideration. After the loading is terminated, a final weight reading is performed to obtain the full draft weight of the loaded car under consideration. Loading of the railroad car is terminated when either the full draft weight reaches a predetermined amount or when the rear truck of the railroad car under consideration reaches a preselected location on the first scale.
