An artificial intelligence (AI) decoding apparatus includes a memory storing one or more instructions; and a processor configured to execute the one or more instructions to obtain image data generated through first encoding on a first image; obtain a second image corresponding to the first image by performing first decoding on the image data; perform pre-processing of changing a resolution of the second image, according to a pre-determined output resolution; and obtain a fourth image having the pre-determined output resolution by applying AI up-scaling based on an up-scaling deep neural network (DNN) to a third image obtained as a result of the pre-processing.

An artificial intelligence (AI) decoding method including obtaining image data generated from performing first encoding on a first image and AI data related to AI down-scaling of at least one original image related to the first image; obtaining a second image corresponding to the first image by performing first decoding on the image data; obtaining, based on the AI data, deep neural network (DNN) setting information for performing AI up-scaling of the second image; and generating a third image by performing the AI up-scaling on the second image via an up-scaling DNN operating according to the obtained DNN setting information. The DNN setting information is DNN information updated for performing the AI up-scaling of at least one second image via joint training of the up-scaling DNN and a down-scaling DNN used for the AI down-scaling.

A nearby friend discovery method is provided, including: generating, by an electronic device, an access point (AP) list identifying one or more access points (APs), the AP list being generated based on the strength of signals received from the access points; transmitting the AP list from the electronic device to a server; receiving, by the electronic device from the server, a nearby friend list, the nearby friend list including an indication of one or more users who are located within a signal range of at least one of the access points identified in the AP list and who have previously exchanged one or more communications with a user of the electronic device; and displaying the nearby friend list.

An electronic device including a flexible display and a method capable of determining a bending direction of the flexible display by using at least one bending confirmation touch recognition pattern are provided. The electronic device includes a flexible display unit including a display panel and a support structure configured to support the display panel; a sensor unit configured to sensing bending of the flexible display unit; and a control unit configured to determine a bending extent and a bending direction of the flexible display unit based on a sensing result of the sensor unit, wherein a plurality of touch recognition patterns are arranged on the display panel and the support structure, and the arranged touch recognition patterns include a bending confirmation pattern.

A page display method is provided that detects information related to pages of an e-book that the user inputs in a mobile device with a touch screen, and displays the pages on the touch screen, according to the detection. A system adapted to the method is also provided. The method includes: displaying a page of an e-book on the touch screen in a preset mode; detecting a touch at a spot on the displayed page; detecting a press by detecting a contact period of time of the detected touch; and, in response to at least one of a location of the spot and a strength of the detected press, displaying the spot on the page as being deformed.
