The method includes the step of coating the solution of the dye compound on a substrate: where R1 and R2 may be identical or different from each other and each represents, respectively, a linear alkyl group or a branched alkyl group, the dye thin film having high thermal stability, having intense absorption at approximately 1.3 μm and having ultrafast response characteristic.

The display medium includes a pair of electrodes disposed so as to have a gap therebetween, an electrolyte disposed between the pair of electrodes, an electroconductive porous layer disposed at least one of the pair of electrodes at the side facing the other electrode, a first electrochromic dye held by the porous layer, a second electrochromic dye dispersed in the electrolyte and forming a color different from the color of the first electrochromic dye. Both the first electrochromic dye and the second electrochromic dye are oxidation dyes which form colors by an electrochemical oxidation reaction and are rendered color-faded by an electrochemical reduction reaction, or reduction dyes which form colors by an electrochemical reduction reaction and are rendered color-faded by an electrochemical reduction reaction. The threshold values of voltages applied to the pair of the electrodes for changing from a color-faded state to a colored state of the first electrochromic dye and the second electrochromic dye satisfy a specific relationship.

    摘要： The invention provides an electrochromic display device having at least a pair of substrate electrodes and an electrolyte solution interposed between the pair of substrate electrodes. One substrate electrode of the pair of substrate electrodes has a porous structure on its surface. A monomolecular film formed of a first molecule that has a functional group that is capable of adsorbing to the porous structure is adsorbed to the porous structure via the functional group of the first molecule. A monomolecular film of a second molecule that has a functional group that is capable of chemically bonding to the first molecule is provided on the monomolecular film formed of the first molecule via a chemical bond between the functional group of the first molecule and the functional group of the second molecule. Further, at least one of the first molecule and the second molecule is an electrochromic dye.
