摘要: A method for transmission of control information from a primary station to at least one secondary station, includes transmitting with a first set of control information parameters control information corresponding to data transmission with a first set of data parameters, and transmitting with a second set of control information parameters control information corresponding to data transmission with a second set of data parameters. At least one control information parameter has a difference in value between the two sets of control information parameters, where the difference in value has a dependency on the difference between the value of a data parameter in the first set of data parameters and the value of the data parameter in the second set of data parameters. The data parameter is a different parameter from the at least one control information parameter.

摘要: A communication system includes a downlink indicator channel for the transmission of an indicator signal indicating that a data packet is scheduled to be transmitted on a downlink data channel from a primary station to a secondary station. In response to detection of the indicator signal, the secondary station transmits a status signal, for example a negative acknowledgement signal, on an uplink channel to the primary station immediately before transmission of a positive or negative acknowledgement signal to indicate the status of the received data packet. By providing the primary station with two chances to detect the case where the secondary station fails to detect the indicator signal, peak power requirements of the uplink channel can be reduced, thereby reducing system interference levels.

摘要: A secondary station has a receiver capable of resolving signals received as a plurality of multipath signals from a plurality of base stations during a soft handover process. This capability may, for example, be provided by a Rake receiver. In order to decode and act upon the received signals in a very short period of time, signals arriving after a predetermined time are not processed by the receiver which is able instead to process weaker signals which arrived before the time. Such a secondary station is particularly suitable for decoding and acting upon power control commands included in received signals in a UMTS system, for which a very limited period of time is provided by the UMTS specification. The predetermined time may be the time after which signals are received too late for use in determining the next power control change.

摘要: A communication system comprises a downlink data channel for the transmission of data packets from a primary station to a secondary station and two uplink control channels, a first channel for transmission of status signals to indicate the status of received data packets and a second channel for transmission of pilot information. In operation, on detection (402) of a data packet the secondary station increases (404) the transmission power of the second channel, thereby enabling the primary station to obtain a better estimate of uplink channel properties and hence increase the accuracy with which it can decode the status signal. The secondary station transmits (406) the status signal, typically either an acknowledgement (ACK) or negative acknowledgement (NACK), and decreases (408) the transmission power of the second control channel signal. The increase and decrease in power are not necessarily identical, for example as a result of the effects of power control.

摘要: A secondary station has a receiver capable of resolving signals received as a plurality of multipath signals from a plurality of primary stations during a soft handover process. To decode and act upon the received signals in a very short period of time, the duration of an offset between a downlink timing reference and an uplink timing reference may be varied by the secondary station. By choosing a suitable value for the offset, the secondary station can reduce the changes to the uplink timing reference. The downlink timing reference and/or the offset may be determined from the timings of received downlink signals. The secondary station may request a primary station to adjust the timing of its downlink transmissions to increase the amount of time available for processing the signals by, for example, arranging for downlink signals from the primary station supplying the strongest signal to be received first.

摘要: A radio station comprises means for allocating resources for communication with at least one other station, and including means for mapping data to be transmitted from at least the radio station to the at least one other station, and means for applying a cyclic shift to the data mapping, wherein this cyclic shift is adjusted depending on the number of data blocks to be mapped. 摘要: When a radio station terminates a first service on a first radio frequency channel and selects a second radio frequency channel for engaging in a second service, a time delay is inserted after the termination of the first service and before selecting the second radio frequency channel or before engaging in the second service. The time delay is dependent on the state of the radio station and/or a characteristic of the second service.

摘要: A communication system, for example UMTS (Universal Mobile Telecommunication System), comprises a base station and a plurality of mobile stations. In normal operation the mobile station continuously makes uplink transmissions on certain spread spectrum channels (DPDCH, DPCCH). The maximum allowed power (Pmax) for these uplink transmissions is specified. However there are occasions when for example receiving packet data from the base station, the receiving mobile station has to transmit an acknowledgement (ACK) or a Non-acknowledgement (NACK) at a power level specified by the base station. In order to keep the transmit power of the mobile station within the maximum allowed power, the total power required to transmit an ACK or NACK in parallel with the continuous uplink signals is determined and if this exceeds Pmax then at least the power DPDCH and DPCCH channels are scaled to allow sufficient power for the transmission of an ACK or NACK. The power scaling is carried-out based on the power required for whichever one of ACK or NACK requires the most power. This avoids reducing the amount of time available to a mobile whether an ACK or NACK should be transmitted.
