    摘要: A head-slider configured to fly in proximity to a recording surface of a magnetic-recording disk. The head-slider includes a write element including a main pole configured to generate a magnetic-recording field from a pole tip of the main pole in a first localized portion of the magnetic-recording disk. The head-slider also includes a magnetic-recording assistance element configured to provide energy to a second localized portion of the magnetic-recording disk in order to increase reversibility of a magnetization in a first localized portion of the magnetic-recording disk. A width of the pole tip of the main pole on a leading-edge side is wider than a width of the pole tip of the main pole on a trailing-edge side.

At least either shield layer of a lower magnetic shield layer, and an upper magnetic shield layer, closer to a perpendicular magnetic write head, is made up so as to have a multi-layered structure comprising low thermal expansion nonmagnetic layers, and magnetic layers. Material having a coefficient of thermal expansion smaller than that of a magnetoresistive film is selected as a material for the low thermal expansion nonmagnetic layers of the shield layer.

    摘要: In a partial-response maximum-likelihood (PRML) signal detection and processing technique, reduction of data detection error events caused due to medium noise is achieved. For a PRML detection data result obtained after PRML data demodulation, a code error event that depends on a signal distance, and which has a high frequency of occurrence, is noticed and its occurrence probability is estimated. A locally-existing medium noise quantity is estimated from preceding and subsequent code patterns of the PRML detection data result. Based on this, the occurrence probability of the error event is compensated to improve the detection precision. As a result, data modulation with reliability higher than conventional maximum likelihood detection can be realized with a simple circuit structure.

The rotary recording medium reproducing apparatus comprises an inserting opening through which the case is inserted, a turntable for rotating the rotary recording medium, a lid member locking mechanism and rotary recording medium clamping mechanism provided at an innermost part of the reproducing apparatus at an opposite side from the inserting opening with respect to the turntable, where the rotary recording medium clamping mechanism consists of an upper clamping member and a lower clamping member which is at a downwardly inclined rotated position upon non-clamping state and at a horizontal rotational position upon clamping state, an operating mechanism pushed and displaced by the case inserted into the reproducing apparatus, for operating the lid member locking mechanism and the rotary recording medium clamping mechanism, a locking mechanism for locking the operating mechanism at a final displaced position, and a restricting mechanism constructed from a part of the lower clamping member of the rotary recording medium clamping mechanism and a part of the operating mechanism, for restricting the displacing movement of the operating mechanism towards the final displaced position at an intermediate position when the lower clamping member is at the downwardly inclined rotated position.

The reproducing apparatus comprises an inserting opening through which the case is inserted a lid plate locking mechanism and disc-shaped recording medium clamping mechanism respectively provided at the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus opposite to the inserting opening with respect to a turntable, for rotating the disc-shaped recording medium, and a jacket opening enlarging mechanism provided in the vicinity of the inserting opening, capable of moving over the turntable between the position in the vicinity of the inserting opening and the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus. The jacket opening enlarging mechanism has an enlarging member for enlarging the opening of the jacket by entering inside the cutouts of the lid plate, upon insertion of the jacket into the reproducing apparatus through the inserting opening. The lid plate locking mechanism has a locking member for locking the lid plate by entering inside the cutouts of the lid plate, upon insertion of the lid plate into the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus together with the jacket. The disc-shaped recording medium clamping mechanism has a clamping member for clamping the disc-shaped recording medium within the jacket by riding over the ride-over part of the lid plate and entering through the enlarged opening of the jacket, upon insertion of the lid plate into the innermost part of the reproducing apparatus together with the jacket.
