Abstract: A line spool assembly for mounting on a spindle in an open-face fishing reel of the fixed-spool type comprises a hollow shaft non-rotatably mountable on the spindle and having a front portion, a rear portion and an externally threaded intermediate portion, and a line spool rotatably mounted on the shaft. A line spool drag for adjustable braking of the rotation of the line spool around the shaft has at least two drag washers, one of which is non-rotatably connected to the shaft and the other is non-rotatably connected to the line spool and which are in rotation-impeding frictional engagement with each other. An adjusting knob for adjusting the braking effect of the line spool drag is rotatably mounted on the rear portion of the shaft behind the line spool. An adjusting nut which is non-rotatably connected to the adjusting knob and which is in threaded engagement with the threaded intermediate portion of the shaft in order to press, via a resilient member, the drag washers towards each other by a force adjustable by rotation of the adjusting knob.

Abstract: A spinning reel for fishing, having an improved braking drag regulating structure, which is provided with a locking stoper on the portion of a reel casing over which an operating lever is moved forward and backward, and a locking member formed on the operating lever and adapted to be engaged with the stopper and thereby lock the operating lever, either of the stopper and locking member being made movable so that these two parts can be released from the engaging force. Abstract: A fishing machine is disclosed which automates various aspects of fishing techniques. Values for fishing depth, line pull, and jigging length can be electronically stored by the fisherman. A motor is controlled on the basis of these store values to rotate a reel on which a fishing line is stored. The reel is turned to extend the line or bring it in to implement the stored fishing depth and jigging length. The motor speed and torque are also controlled in accordance with signals obtained from a line pull detector and motor speed feedback signals. With this system, once the above-mentioned values are stored, the fishing line descends to the desired fishing depth, jigging is performed, and when the fish is hooked this is detected and it is reeled in, all this being done automatically.
