    摘要: Methods and apparatus for indicating a low toner condition in a printer having a plurality of toner cartridges are provided. A method is provided which includes presenting a cartridge having low toner at a cartridge access way where the cartridge can be removed and replaced. The method can also include providing a carriage which can movably support the plurality of toner cartridges and can automatically move the cartridge having low toner to the cartridge access way when a low toner condition is detected. An apparatus is provided which includes a movable carriage which can move in a substantially linear manner. Other apparatus are provided which include a movable carriage which can move in a substantially rotational manner.

    摘要: An apparatus including a development agent carrying member, a toner container having an opening, an initial development agent container, a flexible member, and a stopper. The flexible member rotates to cyclically transfer toner to the carrying member via the opening. The stopper locates the flexible member at a closed position where the opening is closed. The flexible member is initially located at the closed position and releases the opening when the development agent is present on a surface of the carrying member facing the opening. A method of image forming is provided that includes sealing the opening by engaging the flexible member with the stopper, filling the toner container, supplying a development agent to the carrying member at a surface of the development agent facing the opening, and releasing the opening to start supplying the toner to the carrying member through the opening by rotation of the flexible member.

    摘要: A developing apparatus for an image forming apparatus forms an electrostatic latent image corresponding to an image information signal on an image bearing member. The developing apparatus includes a developer carrying member which bears and conveys a two-component developer containing a non-magnetic toner and a magnetic carrier for forming a toner image by developing the electrostatic latent image formed on the image bearing member. Convexities and concavities are formed on a surface of the developer carrying member. An average peak-to-peak spacing (Sm) of the convexities and concavities is set at ⅓ to 6 times of a weight-average particle diameter of the magnetic carrier (D) (D/3≦Sm≦6*D). An average roughness at ten points (Rz) on the surface of the developer carrying member is set at {fraction (1/10)} to ½ times of the weight-average particle diameter of the magnetic carrier. A number of concavities which are 1 &mgr;m to 10 &mgr;m wide and 0.2 &mgr;m or more deep is smaller than 10 within a spacing of 100 &mgr;m in a surface profile of the developer carrying member. The surface of the developer carrying member is prepared by blasting the surface with definite spherical particles having a weight-average diameter d and a weight-average particle diameter D of the magnetic carrier, according to the following relation: D≦d≦10D.
