Abstract: An adapter module for a portable computer keeps its power cables in its housing to maintain a tidy appearance. Cylinders, driven by torsion springs, roll power cables around themselves in the housing. A stop, driven by a spring, blocks teeth of cylinders to prevent the cylinders from rolling up the power cables. A button, operated by a user, is pushed against the stop to release the cylinders on which the power cables are retracted. When the adapter module is used to transmit power, power cables of desired length are extracted. When the module is not in use, the button is pressed to tract the power cables into the housing.

Abstract: A wireless communications protocol utilizes protocol data units (PDUs) for transmitting and receiving service data units (SDUs). Each PDU has a sequence number of n bits for indicating a relative sequential ordering of the PDU in a transmitted or received stream of PDUs. A transmission time interval (TTI) is also used in which a predetermined number of PDUs are transmitted or received. PDUs are received within a TTI. A starting sequence number and an ending sequence number for received PDUs within the TTI are found. Any received PDU within the TTI that has a sequence number that is sequentially before the starting sequence number or that is sequentially after the ending sequence number is discarded. The incremental magnitude of the sequence numbers is used to signal discarded PDUs.

Abstract: A BIOS module for automatic restoring and the related method are provided. The BIOS module has a BIOS memory and a prime BIOS code embedded therein. When the contents of a BIOS memory is damaged, a backup BIOS code can be loaded from other storage media for rebooting the computer system. The BIOS code comprises a BIOS function program module having a compressed function program, a detecting means for detecting the correctness of the BIOS function program module, a restoring module responsive to the detecting means for automatic rebooting the computer when the decompressing procedure has errors to load and execute the BIOS backup code from other storing media. And after rebooting the computer system successfully the restoring module also can restore the BIOS backup code into the BIOS memory. Besides, a differentiating means is applied to check the versions of the backup BIOS code and the prime BIOS code. When the prime BIOS code can boot the computer system successfully and the version thereof is latest than that of the backup BIOS code, the prime BIOS code can be backuped to the storage media.
