Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method may include accessing an audio track that is associated with a video recording, identifying a section of the accessed audio track having a specific audio characteristic, reducing a volume level of the audio track in the identified section, accessing an audio segment that includes a synthesized voice and inserting the accessed audio segment into the identified section of the audio track, where the inserted segment has a higher volume level than the reduced volume level of the audio track in the identified section. The synthesized voice description can be used to provide additional information to a visually impaired viewer without interrupting the audio track that is associated with the video recording, typically by inserting the synthesized voice description into a segment of the audio track in which there is no dialog. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a prediction application computes a quality score for re-constructed visual content that is derived from visual content. The prediction application generates a frame difference matrix based on two frames included in the re-constructed video content. The prediction application then generates a first entropy matrix based on the frame difference matrix and a first scale. Subsequently, the prediction application computes a first value for a first temporal feature based on the first entropy matrix and a second entropy matrix associated with both the visual content and the first scale. The prediction application computes a quality score for the re-constructed video content based on the first value, a second value for a second temporal feature associated with a second scale, and a machine learning model that is trained using subjective quality scores. The quality score indicates a level of visual quality associated with streamed video content.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a subsequence-based encoding application generates a convex hull of subsequence encode points based on multiple encoding points and a first subsequence included in a set of subsequences that are associated with a media title. The subsequence-based encoding application then generates a first encode list that includes multiple subsequence encode points based on the first convex hull. Notably, each subsequence encode point included in the first encode list is associated with a different subsequence. The subsequence-based encoding application selects a first subsequence encode point included in the first encode list based on a first variability constraint that is associated with a media metric. The subsequence-based encoding application then replaces the first subsequence encode point included in the first encode list with a second subsequence encode point to generate a second encode list. Finally, the subsequence-based encoding application generates an encoded media sequence based on the second encode list.

Abstract: An online distributed computer system with methodologies for distributed trace aggregation and targeting distributed tracing. In one aspect, the disclosed distributed tracing technologies improve on existing distributed tracing technologies by providing to application developers and site operations personnel a more holistic and comprehensive insight into the behavior of the online distributed computer system in the form of computed span metric aggregates displayed in a graphical user interface thereby making it easier for such personnel to diagnose problems in the system and to support and maintain the system. In another aspect, the disclosed distributed tracing technologies improve on existing distributed tracing technologies by facilitating targeted tracing of initiator requests.

Abstract: A playback application is configured to analyze audio frames associated with transitions between segments within a media title to identify one or more portions of extraneous audio. The playback application is configured to analyze the one or more portions of extraneous audio and then determine which of the one or more corresponding audio frames should be dropped. In doing so, the playback application can analyze a topology associated with the media title to determine whether any specific portions of extraneous audio are to be played outside of a logical ordering of audio samples set forth in the topology. These specific portions of extraneous audio are preferentially removed.

Abstract: The disclosed computer-implemented method includes accessing data that is to be used as part of a test implementation that has multiple potential outcomes. The method also includes determining that the test implementation is to be carried out using specified testing algorithms that test for at least one of the potential outcomes. The method next includes identifying portions of the accessed data that are to be used in the specified testing algorithms, and compressing the identified portions of the accessed data to remove portions of the accessed data that are unused in the specified testing algorithms. The method also includes executing the test implementation using the specified testing algorithms with the compressed accessed data. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a serverless function agent determines that a client stub function has been invoked with a first set of arguments in a first execution environment. The serverless function agent then performs one or more operations on a media item that is associated with a first argument included in the first set of arguments to generate a second argument included in a second set of arguments. Notably, the first argument has a first data type and the second argument has a second data type. Subsequently, the serverless function agent invokes a function with the second set of arguments in a second execution environment. Advantageously, because the serverless function agent automatically performs operations on the media item, the overall amount of technical know-how and manual effort required to enable the function to successfully execute on a wide range of media items can be reduced.

Abstract: In various embodiments, a buffer-based encoding application generates a first convex hull of subsequence encode points based on multiple encoding points and a first subsequence associated with a media title. The buffer-based encoding application then generates a first global convex hull of media encode points based on a transmission buffer constraint, the first convex hull, and a second global convex hull of media encode points. Notably, the second global convex hull is associated with a portion of the media title that occurs before the first subsequence in a playback order for the media title. Subsequently, the subsequence-based encoding application selects a first media encode point included in the first global convex hull based on a media metric and determines a first encoded media sequence based on the selected media encode point. The first encoded media sequence is subsequently streamed to an endpoint device during playback of the media title.
