There is provided an ink composition for ink jet recording, which can yield images having excellent gloss with good color reproduction even on various recording media having a low level of water absorption, especially synthetic paper and printing paper for running-on. The ink composition for ink jet recording comprises a colorant, water, an alkanediol, and a surfactant, wherein the alkanediol comprises a water-soluble 1,2-alkanediol, a poor water-soluble 1,2-alkanediol, and a poor water-soluble both terminal alkanediol, and the alkanediol satisfies a requirement on a weight basis of A:(B+C)=2:1 to 2:3 wherein A represents the content of the water-soluble 1,2-alkanediol in the alkanediol; B represents the content of the poor water-soluble 1,2-alkanediol in the alkanediol; and C represents the content of the poor water-soluble both terminal alkanediol in the alkanediol.

In the preparation of an offset printing plate comprising forming printing plate images with droplets of lipophilic ink by using a printing means based on the inkjet method, lipophilic ink having a UV curing property is used, and a UV lamp 7 is also carried on a carriage 8 carrying a printing head 6. While performing multipass printing by a dot thinning method for the main scanning direction and subscanning direction with the printing head 6, droplets on a printing plate material 2 immediately after the printing are cured with ultraviolet rays irradiated by the UV lamp 7. Moreover, ultraviolet rays are irradiated also in the period of returning of the carriage 8. Since blotting of the droplets immediately after printing do not overlap with one another, and the droplets are cured in every pass, extremely precise tone reproduction can be realized. Moreover, as the UV lamp 7, a UV lamp of a small output capacity can be used, and thus cost of the apparatus can be reduced.

The present invention provides a yellow ink composition in which the Y value is 86 or greater when the Z value in the XYZ display system stipulated by the CIE is 23. Furthermore, the present invention also provides a yellow ink composition which contains a metal complex pigment. In particular, the yellow ink composition of the present invention can express a low-brightness yellow color with good reproducibility. A vehicular occupant restraint system includes a distance sensor, an electromagnetic wave radiation-type occupant sensor, a controller, and an airbag drive circuit. When the controller predicts a collision and determines it is unavoidable based on the output of the distance sensor, the controller sends an instruction signal to the occupant sensor to determine the seating condition of an occupant. Then, the airbag drive circuit performs an airbag deployment control in accordance with the determined seating condition. This system thus reduces power consumption and electromagnetic wave radiation of the occupant sensor.

There is provided a lithographic plate material with which a lithographic plate is prepared by the hot-melt transfer recording method utilizing an ink ribbon. The lithographic plate material has an image-receptive layer for hot-melt transfer recording that has a water retention property or can be imparted with a water retention property on a support, and the image-receptive layer has a surface roughness (JIS-B06011994) of 0.15 &mgr;m or more in terms of arithmetic mean deviation Ra and 1.00-3.00 &mgr;m in terms of 10-point height of irregularities Rz. It shows good transfer of the ink layer of ink ribbon and excellent fixation of the ink layer, and it enables production of a printing plate having excellent printing durability.
