Abstract: A cable has a tensile armor having a number of elongated polymeric tensile elements. At least one of the elongated polymeric tensile elements includes a bundle of high tensile fibers and a jacket tightly retaining the bundle of fibers. The elongated polymeric tensile elements are arranged with a lay loss of 1.5% at most. A method of manufacturing such a cable is also disclosed.

Abstract: The present invention concerns an optical fibre comprising: an optical waveguide comprising a glass core surrounded by a glass cladding; a coating surrounding said optical waveguide comprising a cured polymer material comprising a polyester obtained by polymerization of a monomer selected from an acid, a triglyceride, or a mixture of triglycerides having a C16-C24 aliphatic chain comprising at least two conjugated double bonds. The present invention concerns also a method for coating an optical fibre with said polyester coating. The cured polymer material forming the coating can be prepared by curing the polyester of the invention either thermally or by radiation.

The coating of the optical fiber according to the present invention exhibits enhanced resistance upon exposure to high temperature, preferably a temperature over 250° C., while endowed with required features such as protective capability, elasticity, adhesion to underlying layer and simple manufacturing.

Abstract: An optical cable includes an optical core and an external sheath surrounding the optical core. The external sheath includes a first material having a first, higher fracture toughness and a second material having a second, lower fracture toughness. The first and second materials are arranged so that the second, lower fracture toughness material is accessible from outside the cable along at least one longitudinally extending area of the sheath outer surface. For accessing the optical core of the cable, a short longitudinal cut, namely, few centimeters, is made with a blade in the accessible second, lower fracture toughness material. Then, its cut edges are pulled apart by hand. The pulling force causes the lower fracture toughness material to fracture, thereby propagating the initial short cut longitudinally along the sheath through its whole thickness.

Abstract: A fire resistant cable comprising: at least one conducting element; at least one layer, surrounding said conducting element, made of a ceramifiable composition comprising: a polymeric material comprising an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer as main polymer; at least 25 wt % of silica; a fluxing agent selected from alkaline metal oxides or precursors thereof; a stabilizing agent comprising at least one of MgO, CaO, PbO, B2O3, or a precursor thereof; from 0.1 wt % to 5 wt % of a hydroxide selected from magnesium hydroxide, aluminum hydroxide and mixtures thereof; the above percentages being expressed with respect to the weight of the ceramifiable composition. Upon exposure to elevated temperatures such as those encountered in case of fire, the ceramifiable composition is transformed into a ceramic material capable of protecting the conducting element from fire and mechanical stresses. The fire resistant cable of the present invention can continue operating under fire conditions for a certain period of time.

The partial discharge detection system further includes: a phase value generator configured to produce synthetized phase values representing a synthetized synchronization signal, the phase value generator being adjustable according to phase errors; and an error computing module configured to compute said phase errors from the synthetized phase values, the detected synchronization phase values and the corresponding reference time values.
