A focal plane shutter includes: a board including an opening; a leading blade and a trailing blade opening and closing the opening; first and second drive members respectively driving the leading blade and the trailing blade; first and second actuators respectively driving the first and second drive members; a first biasing member biasing the first drive member to move the leading blade away from the opening; and a second biasing member biasing the second drive member to move the trailing blade away from the opening.

An imaging apparatus is provided, including a blade-driving device and a driving control unit which drives the front curtain actuator and the rear curtain actuator. The front curtain and the rear curtain are positioned at the open position at a time of start and termination of imaging, in which the front curtain moves from the closing position to the open position, and the rear curtain moves from the open position to the closing position, thereby performing an exposure operation. During consecutive photographing, the front curtain positioned at the closing position is moved once in a direction of the open position and is then returned to the closing position after the rear curtain is moved to the open position after termination of the exposure operation, and before a subsequent exposure operation is performed.

To provide a blade drive device capable of suppressing variations in movement speed of blades at the time of continuous operation and shortening the operation interval of blades. A blade drive device 10 includes a bed plate 11 having an opening 12, a blade receiving plate 15 arranged so as to face the bed plate 11, a plurality of blades 31b to 34b provided between the bed plate 11 and the blade receiving plate 15, which are expanded in a state where the opening 12 is closed and are housed while overlapping one another in a state where the opening 12 is opened and a regulating member 80 having an abutting surface 82 on which side edge portions 31b1 to 34b1 of the blades 31b to 34b abut when the blades are housed. The abutting surface 82 is an inclined surface 83 inclined to the bed plate 11 side as it goes from the bed plate 11 side to the blade receiving plate 15 side.

The blade drive device includes a substrate that has an opening, a front curtain and a rear curtain that are movable along an opening surface of the opening so as to open and close the opening, a front curtain locking portion that interlocks with opening and closing operations of the front curtain, a rear curtain locking portion that interlocks with opening and closing operations of the rear curtain, a regulation lever that is configured to be pivotally movable around a lever axis, that enters an operation trajectory of the front curtain locking portion and the rear curtain locking portion, and that is capable of entry and escape between an entry position for regulating the movement of the front curtain and the rear curtain in a closing direction and an escape position escaped from the operation trajectory, a regulation electromagnetic actuator that is configured to be rotatable around a regulation axis, and a linkage lever that causes the regulation lever to pivot around the lever axis in response to the rotation around the regulation axis of the regulation electromagnetic actuator. The regulation lever and the linkage lever engage with each other while being provided with play in a circumferential direction around the regulation axis.

A focal-plane shutter capable of stabilizing a curtain in continuous photographing action for suppression of variation in light exposure period is provided. The focal-plane shutter includes a base plate having a first opening, a blade receiving plate so arranged as to face the base plate and having a second opening formed in a position corresponding to the first opening, and a rear curtain that is arranged between the base plate and the blade receiving plate and moves between an open position where the first opening and the second opening are open and a closed position where the first opening and the second opening are closed to open and close the first opening and the second opening. The blade receiving plate has a protruding section in a position where the blade receiving plate overlaps with the rear curtain located in the open position when viewed along the optical axis direction, and the protruding section so protrudes toward the rear curtain as to allow the rear curtain to come into contact with the protruding section.
