    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for controlling a shared machine. The shared machine includes a mechanism that allows for an operational function of the shared machine to be controlled via a control system. A server system can process location information that indicates a location of the shared machine to determine whether the location corresponds to a non-permitted area. When the location corresponds to a non-permitted area, a command is generated to automatically place the mechanism in a first state so that the operational function of the shared machine is prevented from being enabled while the shared machine remains in the non-permitted area.

    Abstract: A powertrain includes an internal combustion engine, an electric machine including a rotor, a geartrain including a pump drive mechanism, a first clutch and a second clutch and a variator for a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The internal combustion engine is rotatably coupled to the rotor of the electric machine by activation of a second clutch. The internal combustion engine is rotatably coupled to the variator by activation of first and second clutches. The rotor of the electric machine is rotatably coupled to the variator by activation of the first clutch, and the electric machine is operative in either a forward direction or a reverse direction. The geartrain is disposed to operate the pump drive mechanism to drive a fluidic pump in a first direction when the electric machine is operating in the forward direction and when the electric machine is operating in the reverse direction.

    Abstract: A multiple-mode continuously-variable transmission (CVT) assembly for connecting to an external power-source is disclosed. The assembly includes a continuously-variable speed-ratio unit having an input member and a multiple fixed speed-ratio unit having another input member, wherein the multiple fixed speed-ratio unit is operatively connected to the continuously-variable speed-ratio unit. The assembly also includes a first torque-transmitting device operatively connected to each of the input members of the continuously-variable speed-ratio unit and the multiple fixed speed-ratio unit. The first torque-transmitting device is configured to receive an input torque from the external power-source. The assembly also includes an output member operatively connected to each of the continuously-variable speed-ratio unit and the multiple fixed speed-ratio unit and configured to carry an output torque from the assembly. A motor vehicle having such a multiple-mode CVT assembly is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A continuously variable transmission includes a first pulley, a second pulley, and an endless rotatable device operatively interconnecting the first and second pulleys.     Abstract: An axial flux motor includes: a ring-shaped stator, a ring-shaped rotor and a planetary gear set. The ring-shaped stator includes a stator core and segments arranged on the stator core, where each of the segments includes a laminated stack and windings wrapped around the laminated stack. The ring-shaped rotor defines an inner open area and including a body and permanent magnets arranged on the body adjacent to and spaced from the segments. The planetary gear set is disposed within the inner open area and configured to receive an input torque from the rotor and provide an output torque, which is greater than the input torque.

    Abstract: A stator for an electrical machine defines a central axis and has a first stator face facing parallel to the central axis and a second stator face facing parallel to the central axis, with the first stator face and the second stator face facing in opposite directions. The stator includes a plurality of ferromagnetic segments disposed about the central axis, each segment having a pair of parallel faces that face parallel to the central axis of the stator.     Abstract: An electrical system includes a high-voltage battery pack assembly having a first cell set with a first group of energy storage cells and a second cell set having a second group of energy storage cells connectable to the first cell set. The first cell set includes at least one first battery chemistry cell and the second cell set includes at least one second battery chemistry cell. At least one switch is in electrical communication with the first or second cell set. Battery connection terminals are in electrical communication with at least one of the first or second cell sets. A controller is configured to determine an operating strategy of the high-voltage battery pack assembly and place at least one of the first cell set or the second cell set in electrical communication with the battery connection terminals in response to the operating strategy of the high-voltage battery pack.
