    摘要: A method of developing a latent image formed on an image carrier with toner, including causing a developer carrier, which faces the image carrier and accommodates a magnet therein, to support a developer having a toner and a magnetic carrier supporting the toner and convey the developer to a developing zone between the developer carrier and the image carrier, and providing an apparent coating ratio M of a surface of the developer carrier coated with the developer. The coating ration M is, in a zone upstream of the developing zone in a direction of rotation of the developer carrier, expressed as M=αA2+β (%), where α denotes a coefficient of the coating ratio, A2 denotes an amount of developer for a unit area, β denotes a value determined by a powder characteristic of the developer for an apparent coating ratio calculated with A2=0, and the coating ratio M is between 90% and 120%.

    摘要: In a developing device for an image forming apparatus, a developing roller has dielectric portions and conductive portions distributed regularly or irregularly over the surface thereof. The surfaces of the dielectric portions are smaller in height than the surfaces of the conductive portions. The difference in height is greater than one-half of the volumetric mean particle size of a toner. A charge opposite in polarity to a charge to be deposited on the toner is deposited on the dielectric portions. The dielectric portions, or recesses, each has a width more than three times as great as the volumetric mean particle size of the toner and a depth less than five times the volumetric particle size. The dielectric portions may be greater in height than the conductive portions and may be implemented as spiral grooves inclined more than 30 degrees relative to the axis of rotation of the developing roller. The developing roller may be moved at a higher linear velocity than a photoconductive drum.

    摘要: In a developing device for developing a latent image formed on an image carrier with a developer, a developer carrier conveys the developer deposited thereon to the image carrier. A developer driving section moves, in a position adjoining the developer carrier and where the developer is at least apt to aggregate, the developer such that the developer is loosened. A developer charging member deposits a predetermined amount of charge on the developer. The developer charging member is located downstream of the developer driving section with respect to the direction of rotation of the developer carrier and upstream of a developing position where the developer carrier faces the image carrier. The device is small size and inexpensive since it does not include a conventional sponge roller or similar developer supply member. In addition, the device prevents the developer from aggregating in the vicinity of the developer carrier and stabilizes the deposition of a charge on the developer carried on the developer carrier.
