摘要: In a cluster storage system, storage areas scattered in a plurality of storage nodes are coupled into a single storage area for access by a host computer. The cluster storage system has a first storage node and a second storage node, each of which has a disk and a control processor for controlling input/output to/from the disk, and a host interface node for connecting the first and second storage nodes to a computer. The first storage node manages a storage area having a first storage area existing in the first storage node and a second storage area existing in the second storage node as a logical device. Upon receipt of an access request having identification information corresponding to the logical device from the computer, the host interface node forwards the access request to the first storage node.

摘要: In a storage system having a plurality of control units each connected with a plurality of disk units, it is provided that a replication is created in the volume of the disk units connected to different control units. The replication creation unit of a given control unit creates a replication in the volume of the disk unit connected to other control units in such a manner that the original volume information, the replication volume information in the control unit and information on the other control units are registered as volume pair information. Based on this volume pair information, a replication creation request is transmitted to the other control units.

摘要: A first storage system is connected to a second storage system, and an external device within the first storage system is provided to a host as a device of the second storage system. The second storage system includes a cache control section having cache adaptors, each controlling a disk and a cache, a protocol conversion section including protocol adaptors that switch requests from the host to appropriate ones of the cache adaptors, a management adaptor, and an internal network that mutually connects the cache adaptors, the protocol adaptors and the management adaptor. The first storage system being connected to any of the protocol adaptors is connected to the second storage system. The second storage system executes a processing for the external device by the cache control section, or connects to the first storage system through the protocol conversion section without the cache control section executing processing for the external device.

摘要: In a storage system having a plurality of virtualization apparatuses that allocate a storage area which a storage device has, form a plurality of virtual volumes, and process input-output from a host processor to one of the virtual volumes, a request for completing all the input-output being processed that is received from the host processor and temporarily holding the input-output processing received subsequently is issued to the plurality of virtualization apparatuses, when a completion report of the processing of the input-output in response to the request is received from the plurality of virtualization apparatuses and the completion report is received from all the virtualization apparatuses to which the request was issued, an instruction of an allocation change of the storage area of the storage device is sent to all the virtualization apparatuses, and when the completion report of the allocation change is received from all the virtualization apparatuses, the storage area of the storage device is allocated to the virtual volume by sending an instruction for releasing a state of the input-output held temporarily to all the virtualization apparatuses.

摘要: A method for controlling a storage system including a host computer, and a first and a second storage control apparatuses each receiving a data input/output request from the host computer and executing a data input/output process for a storage device in response to the request, comprises connecting a first communication path between the host computer and the first apparatus; connecting a second communication path between the first apparatus and the second apparatus; receiving by the first apparatus a first data input/output request from the host computer through the first path; when the first apparatus has judged that the first request is not for the first apparatus, transmitting by the first apparatus a second data input/output request corresponding to the first request, to the second apparatus through the second path; and by the second apparatus, receiving the second request and executing a data input/output process corresponding to the second request received.

摘要: The present invention provides techniques, including a method and system, for transferring data between computer systems, for example, a mainframe and a Personal Computer (PC), having storage systems of different formats, efficiently. One embodiment provides a method for transferring data from a first system, having a first processor and a first memory, using a first format to a second system, having a second processor and a second memory, using a second format. The method includes a first system receiving data of a first format from a first disk unit; processing the data of the first format into transformed data, where the transformed data is the data transformed into the second format; storing the transformed data in the first memory; and sending the transformed data from the first memory to the second system responsive to a request from the second system.

摘要: In an environment in which plural external storage devices having different function control interfaces are intermixed, when a function of a storage device is controlled from a computer, a common interface for controlling the function of the storage device is provided. A device that provides the common interface manages an interrelationship between a storage area recognized by a host computer and a storage area provided by the storage device and associates a storage area which becomes a target of a function control instruction with the storage device that provides the storage area. A type of the storage device that provides the storage area which becomes the target of the function control instruction is identified and function control is ordered through a function control interface unique to the device.

摘要: In a storage system comprising multiple storage devices with different interfaces, the characteristics, including the type of interface, of the storage devices on which the source volume is constructed are checked, a volume having the characteristics that match them is selected as the destination volume, and the contents of the source volume are automatically replicated into the destination volume. Candidates for replication (destination) volumes are automatically selected and presented to the user or the administrator, and replication volumes are automatically allocated, without requiring the user or the system administrator to be concerned with the characteristics of the storage devices.
