Abstract: An optical connector holding two or more LC-type optical ferrules is provided. The optical connector includes an outer body, an inner front body accommodating the two or more LC-type optical ferrules, ferrule springs for urging the optical ferrules towards a mating receptacle, and a back body for supporting the ferrule springs. The outer body and the inner front body are configured such that four LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a small form-factor pluggable (SFP) transceiver footprint or eight LC-type optical ferrules are accommodated in a quad small form-factor pluggable (QSFP) transceiver footprint. A mating receptacle (transceiver or adapter) includes a receptacle hook and a housing with an opening that accommodates the receptacle hook in a flexed position as the optical connector makes connection with the mating receptacle by introducing the receptacle hook into an optical receptacle hook recess.

Abstract: A multiple fiber push-on (MPO) optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house multiple optical fibers and including a stepped portion extending from at least one pair of opposing exterior surfaces of the ferrule. A one-piece housing-backpost is provided having a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. The one-piece housing-backpost is configured to receive a ferrule spring and the ferrule from the distal end. The housing-backpost includes at least one resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion extending from a sidewall to engage a corresponding stepped portion of the ferrule. The resiliently-deformable ferrule-retaining protrusion is configured to deform towards the housing-backpost interior sidewall as the ferrule is inserted from the distal end and to extend outward against the stepped portion of the ferrule when the ferrule is seated in the housing-backpost to maintain the ferrule in the housing-backpost.

Abstract: An optical connector is provided having a ferrule configured to house one or more optical fibers. An inner housing is provided to hold the ferrule and has a distal end in a connection direction and a proximal end in a cable direction. An outer housing at least partially surrounds the inner housing. One or more resilient forward biasing projections extend from one or more of the outer housing or the inner housing for biasing the outer housing towards the distal end of the inner housing. The resilient forward biasing projection may be integrally formed with either the inner housing or with the outer housing.

Abstract: Reduced-profile connection components are described. The reduced-profile connection components are configured to connect various data transmission elements, including cables, network devices, and computing devices. A non-limiting example of a connection component includes a fiber optic connection component, including connectors, adapters, and assemblies formed therefrom. In some embodiments, the connection components may include mechanical transfer (MT) and multi-fiber push-on/pull-off (MPO) connection components, such as MT ferrules and MPO adapters. The reduced-profile connection components configured according to some embodiments have a smaller profile and/or require less parts to achieve a connection compared to conventional connection components. In some embodiments, the reduced-profile connection components may be used with conventional connection components. For example a reduced-profile connector may use a conventional MT ferrule to establish a connection within a conventional MPO adapter.

Abstract: A reversible polarity fiber optic connector includes an outer housing having a front end, a rear end, and a receiving space defined between the front end and rear end; a ferrule assembly accommodated within the receiving space and configured to form an optical connection within a receptacle, the ferrule assembly including at least one ferrule protruding from the front end of the outer housing and configured to be coupled to the outer housing in a first orientation or a second orientation; and a boot assembly releasably connected to the rear end of the outer housing. The boot assembly further includes a latch configured to be releasably engaged with the outer housing. The latch includes a first tab configured to engage the boot assembly with the outer housing and a second tab configured to activate a disengage of the boot assembly from the outer housing.

Abstract: Cross-compatible VSFF connection systems include optical connectors that are compatible with at least two types of adapters and adapters that are compatible with at least two types of optical connectors. Optical connectors have one or both of connector latch recesses and depressible latches, and likewise adapters have one or both of adapter latch arms and adapter latch recesses. Dual latch function connectors and adapters are capable of connection to a mating components that have only one type of latch structure, e.g., only recesses or only latches. Connection systems can be duplex or MT and may facilitate push-pull boot remote release and polarity change.

The VSFF fiber optic network systems can define fiber breakout cabling that connects large trunk cables to many peripheral network locations. The network systems can define branches and sub-branches from a trunk cable. The network systems can define cross-connect sub-networks between sets of transceivers or adapters. The network systems can define a trunk-to-transceiver cabling assembly for connecting a trunk cable to at least 32 transceiver ports.

Abstract: In an ingress-protected fiber optic connector assembly, an optical fiber plug mates with a receptacle at a bulkhead adapter and an ingress-protected housing assembly couples to the bulkhead adapter to enclose the optical fiber plug. The ingress-protected housing includes an outer housing and a compressible cable seal. The outer housing is rotatable to advance the outer housing, simultaneously compressing the compressible cable seal and fastening the housing assembly to the bulkhead adapter. The outer housing can have a plurality coupling positions at which the cable seal is compressed with a different amount of compression force. A non-sealing cable clamp can transfer tension on the cable to the bulkhead adapter.
