Pre-inked impression members for hand stamps are made from a gel or premix of thermoplastic resin particles and liquid ink with use of a disposable molding device comprising a matrix board that is recessed in its molding area with cavities to form inked indicia of the impression members and has a peripheral surface area to which is adhered fluid-tight, and entirely about the molding area, an upright rigid wall means comprising a structure of fiberboard, wood, hard resin or other suitable material shaped to a height corresponding to the desired thickness of the impression members. As another feature, during the heating for curing of a layer of premix formed over the molding area of a matrix board, the layer of premix is confined in place by a covering means, applied over it and held under pressure, which comprises, together preferably with overlaid pliable ink-absorbent material, e.g., plural cut sheets of newspaper, a pliable parting sheet, such for example as a sheet of emery cloth, coated on a side thereof contacting the layer of premix with a substantially resin-impermeable yet ink-permeable layer of fine particles nonadherent to the resin of said premix.

A microporous marking structure, a hand stamp and methods of manufacturing a hand stamp is disclosed. The microporous marking structure includes a noncontinuous pattern of sealed portions on the rear surface thereof. The microporous marking structure may be mounted for use in a pre-inked hand stamp which can be used to create numerous impressions without reinking.

In a hand stamp mount device especially suitable for a preinked stamp impression member that can give great numbers of imprints, the downstroke distance of a substantially rigid, non-rotatable assembly of a handle, a stem and a platen for carrying the impression member is adjustable precisely by turning with one's fingers an adjuster that correspondingly turns a stroke limiting stop member and causes it upon turning to be displaced proportionately lengthwise of the stem. Several ways of effecting the adjustments are disclosed, including some which eliminate all need for screw-threaded parts by making use of a molded ramp member presenting helical ramp surfaces. The platen and a case enclosing it are stiffened to resist stamping forces by an array of integral radiating ribs protruding upwardly from the platen and another array of such ribs protruding downward from the top of the case; and the ribs of the two sets intercalate to occupy vertical space in common when the platen is in normal upward position. A cover closing the case presents structures which limit downward movement of the platen, and structures connecting the cover with the case resist removal of the cover otherwise than by force applied to an end thereof. Further, the handle of the device is provided with an asymmetrically rounded knob form enabling reliance on the feel of it in a user's hand for securing right-reading stamped imprints.
