A method for determining a driving force to drive an optical pickup head of an optical disc drive includes steps of inserting an optical storage media including absolute address marks into the optical disc drive; sequentially providing a plurality of driving indexes for generating testing driving forces for the optical disc drive to move the optical pickup head from the a first absolute address mark to a second absolute address mark; selecting a first driving force index, which corresponds to a testing driving force incapable of successfully moving the optical pickup head from the first absolute address mark to the second absolute address mark; determining a target driving index by adding an offset value to the first driving index; and generating the driving force according to the target driving index.

The present invention discloses an aberration correcting method for use between an optical disc drive and an optical disc. The optical disc drive includes an optical pickup head having an aberration-correcting unit and a control chipset. The method includes steps of: operating the optical pickup head in a focusing-locked and tracking-unlocked state; generating a read-back signal by projecting a laser beam to the optical disc; converting the read-back signal into a radio frequency signal and a tracking error signal by the control chipset; detecting corresponding amplitudes of the radio frequency signal or the tracking error signal at different compensation values by the control chipset; determining a target compensation value by selecting the compensation value corresponding to the maximum amplitude of the tracking error signal or the radio frequency signal; and controlling the aberration-correcting unit according to the target compensation value.

In a layer jump and focusing control method, a first focusing error signal is generated according to the differential astigmatism method in a closed-loop focusing control manner when focusing on the first recording layer. A second focusing error signal is generated according to the astigmatic method in an open-loop focusing control manner when a first layer-jumping procedure is performed to shift a focusing position from the first recording layer to the second recording layer. Then, the completion of the first layer-jumping procedure is determined according to the second focusing error signal, for example when the second focusing error signal passes the zero crossing point and exceeds a threshold level. Afterwards, a third focusing error signal is generated according to the differential astigmatism method in a closed-loop focusing control manner when focusing on the second recording layer.

In an electric appliance system, an electric appliance for performing designated functions and first and second remote controllers are included. The first remote controller is optionally triggered for controlling a first group of the designated functions, and the second remote controller is optionally triggered for controlling a second group of the designated functions. The second group includes at least one designated function included in the first group and at least one designated function excluded from the first group.

A method for reducing the stable rotation speed of an automatic ball balancing system is used with an automatic ball balancing system that has a rotor that has an annular track, with at least one ball provided for rotation inside the track. First, an optimum rotation speed ws that is between the unstable critical rotation speed wc of a ball and a working rotation speed w is first determined. In the next step, the rotor is accelerated to the optimum rotation speed ws. Next, the acceleration of the rotor is reduced until the balls are stationary relative to the track, and then the rotor is accelerated to the working rotation speed w.

A task confirmation method is used in a task executing apparatus. A scheduled task is going to be executed by the task executing apparatus at a preset time point. After the scheduling operation, whether conditions of the task executing apparatus are ready for executing the scheduled task at the preset time point are checked in response to a power-off signal of the task executing apparatus and/or an awaking signal for waking up the powered-off task executing apparatus. If the conditions of the task executing apparatus are not ready for executing the scheduled task at the preset time point, a warning message will be outputted.

In a method for tracking user's habits of using an electronic apparatus, a counting table is built in the electronic apparatus. The counting table is updated whenever a specified one of the actuation keys is manipulated. The updated information of the counting table is then transmitted to an information center. According to the updated information of the counting table, user's habits of using the electronic apparatus can be analyzed.

A disc changer comprises a housing, a disc box, a selecting mechanism, an elevating mechanism, and a driving device. The housing has at least one oblique slot in each side wall. Projections of the oblique slots are interlaced to each other. The disc box fabricated in the housing has a plurality of trays stacking vertically. The selecting mechanism is used for moving vertically to a horizontal position of a predetermined tray of the disc box for pulling out the predetermined tray from the disc box. The elevating mechanism is fabricated in the housing and comprises two slides and a transmission shaft. Each slide is attached to the oblique slot with at least a slide protrusion. Each slide slides back and forth along the respective side wall. The slide protrusion of each slide slides back and forth along the attached oblique slot. By this way, the selecting device can move up and down inside the housing to reach the predetermined tray of the disc box.

A disk reading device has a housing having a disk receiving space provided therein, a first rod having a first guide pin, a second rod pivotably coupled to the first rod at a pivot point in a manner such that the first and second rods achieve a scissoring movement about the pivot point, with the second rod having a second guide pin. The device also includes a locking mechanism for locking the first and second rods at a fixed position, and a detection mechanism coupled to the first rod for detecting the size of a disk that is being inserted into the disk receiving space. The locking mechanism unlocks the first and second rods when a disk having a first size contacts the detection mechanism, and the locking mechanism maintains its lock on the first and second rods when a disk having a second size smaller than the first size is inserted into the disk receiving space.
