A missile launcher comprises a supporting structure a bearing shoe connected to a supporting structure by links articulated so as to form a deformable parallelogram. A fluid pressure cylinder releases a locking system securing the missile on the structure and actuates the links in a direction causing the shoe to push the missile away. The shoe has a sufficient length for determining the distance between the missile and the aircraft at the end of its stroke and also the angular position of the missile. With that arrangement, the position and angular speed of the missile when the thrust of the shoe ceases may be accurately determined.

The invention is a weapon dispensing system for an aircraft. The system includes a weapon positioning assembly for positioning the weapon in a stored position and a release position. The weapon positioning assembly comprises a weapon support rack and a pair of fore and aft links having first and second ends. The first ends of the links are pivotally coupled to the aircraft and the second ends are pivotally coupled to the rack. An actuator assembly is coupled by its first end to the aircraft and by its second end to the weapon positioning assembly. It is adapted to move the positioning assembly from the stored position to the release position. Fore and aft weapon attaching devices for releasably locking the weapon to the rack is attached to the weapon positioning assembly. The weapon releasing devices are adapted to lock the weapon to the rack when the weapon position assembly is in the stored position and to only unlock the weapon from the positioning assembly when it is in the release position. Thus, upon actuation, the rack with the weapon locked thereto is rotated in a downward and forward direction and automatically released when the release position is reached.

A missile launching system adapted for installation in a standard commercial aircraft without modification of the aircraft structure. The system comprises a plurality of frame members, linear tracks which are movable longitudinally relative to the frame members, a plurality of launch tubes for storing the missiles, an exit port for installation in an pre-established aircraft fuselage opening, and associated equipment for selectively launching the missiles from the launch tubes through the exit port. The entire system is assembled from individual components, all of which are sized to be placed on board the aircraft through a standard passenger door opening. In preparation for installing the system in a commercial aircraft, the passenger seats and related equipment conventionally installed in the interior of such an aircraft are removed. The frame members of the system are then mounted to the standard seat tracks in the floor of the aircraft. The remaining portions of the system are thereafter assembled and installed on the frame. The frame is inclined to support the launch tubes at an angle extending upward and forward so that when a missile is ejected from the launch tube, it is given a trajectory which carries it clear of the aircraft wing and empennage.

An actuator for ejecting a store from an aircraft, with a pre-selected force vs stroke profile, is disclosed. The actuator comprises a cylinder and a fixed tubular member coupled to a source of fluid under pressure having a first array of orifices for flowing fluid into the cylinder. A piston assembly is provided, which is adapted to engage and eject the store. The iston assembly is slidably mounted within the cylinder and telescopically movable over the fixed tubular member from a first position, wherein the piston assembly covers a portion of the first array of orifices, to a second position, wherein the first array of orifices is uncovered. Typically, the pressure level of the source of fluid varies, generally as a function of the flow into the cylinder during the stroke of the piston assembly. Thus, the cross-sectional area and spacing of each of the orifices of the first array is selected to maintain a desired pre-selected pressure vs stroke profile within the cylinder upon the application of the fluid to the fixed tubular member, as the initially covered portion of the first array of orifices are uncovered during the stroke. Therefore, upon initiation of fluid flow, the first array of orifices meters the fluid into the cylinder at a rate sufficient to maintain the pre-selected pressure vs stroke profile therein.A system for varying the magnitude of the pressure vs stroke profile within the cylinder is provided, which comprises an adjustable tubular member coupled to the source of fluid, rotatably mounted in a bore within the fixed tubular member. The adjustable tubular member incorporates a second array of orifices which are in a one-to-one relationship with the first array of orifices. Preferably, an electric motor is provided to rotate the adjustable tubular member varying the overlap of the first and second array of orifices, such that the magnitude of the pre-selected pressure vs stroke profile can be varied.

A store carrier having automatic sway bracing which includes two sway braces located symmetrically at a span larger than a pair of inner suspension hooks and smaller than a pair of outer suspension hooks. When a store is loaded on either the inner or outer pair of hooks and the hooks close, a pair of spring loaded tapered wedges on each side of vertically moveable sway brace supporting columns are released to slide and wedge against mating tapered surfaces on the sway brace column thereby locking the sway braces against the loaded store. The wedges are compliant in that they are spring biased against the sliding surface so as to avoid unloading the wedge when subjected to vibratory loads. The wedges are thus prevented from excessive tightening when subject to vibration. At hook opening the tapered wedges are driven with the hooks to cocked positions ready to accept the next store.

Each irreversible connection includes a slideable member having an end surface co-operating with a wedge-shaped surface on a vertically slideable member. The vertically slideable members may be held in an upper position against the effect of a downward bias by a latch engaging recesses in the sides of the members and withdrawn simultaneously by an interlock linkage coordinated with the locking of the hooks in the closed position, whereafter the members move downwardly to engage and lock the respective slideable members and hence the pads.

A quick release mechanism for a single hook bomb rack which is arranged so that forced overlatch or hypersensitive triggering is minimized by inherent self-adjustment of the individual members comprising the quick release mechanism.The mechanism includes two initially vertically aligned links fixedly secured to an enclosing housing at a proximal end by a fixed pin and having an initially horizontally aligned array of three additional links extending to one side of the distal end of the two vertically aligned links. A member to be released has a tip bearing against an inner surface of the second of the horizontally aligned links and has a tension spring connected between a projecting ear of the released member and the third of the horizontally aligned links. A thrust link supplies force to the junction of the vertically aligned links causing them to toggle and assume a bent knee configuration; simultaneously the first two of the horizontally aligned links are urged to rotate upwardly as though these two links were one (by means of complementary shoulders at their abutting ends) to thereby free the member to be released. The unitary rotation of the first two of the horizontally aligned links also pulls the third of the horizontally aligned links towards the vertically aligned links and forces it to rotate upwardly also.

This device for automatically releasably hanging and holding against lateral oscillation load carried under aircrafts has load suspension hooks and holding members preventing the lateral oscillation of the load which project very moderately from the underface of a closed casing containing the actuating mechanism. This mechanism includes in combination linkage detents and springloaded devices disposed on either side of each load suspension hook. A certain delay is introduced into the action whereby when the load is lifted for engagement with the hooks, these are actuated to their load-supporting position and release with a predetermined time-lag the linkage holding the load against lateral oscillation to their operative position. To this end, each pivotally mounted hook is connected via a spring-loaded piston-and-cylinder actuator to a rocker controlling the movement of wedge members controlling in turn a lever supporting the holding members.
